Hi Leyla. I'd recommend Little Greene for painting the cabinets. I have it on mine ( brushed, not sprayed), the quality is great and has proved to be hardwearing. A couple of colours I like are french grey and slaked lime ( pics to follow). I would also look at updating the handles, cup handles look great with victorian style doorknobs and this can be done fairly cheaply. I would to try move some of the bits off the worktop just to give you some space. Maybe update the bar stool for something in wood/metal with a slight industriał feel and change the art for a bigger piece over the bar. Do you have the budget to update anything else? I'm wondering if the kitchen would work better for you if the microwave and bread bin were at the other end by the bin? Your ŵall cabinet is also cute but I wonder if 2 wide shelves here would give you some more storage?

Change the wall tiling to a plain colour. Paint the cabinets white or grey which would go with the floor. Loose some of the clutter or get some more cupboards/storage. Tidy the contents of the glass fronted cabinet so only nice things show through. Change the microwave to a chrome one. Loose the little unit with the mugs/kitchen towel to a bigger one as looks like lots of bits n pieces. Good luck post us some 'after' pictures.

I definitely agree with painting the cupboards a warm grey. Then you could replace the worktops with oak (not too pricey if you buy online). You can easily remove the tiles yourself and replace (if costs allow) with something more simple like cream metro etc.

If you can't go new, paint! My mum always did this. Most tiles can be painted, and you can get tile stickers now too to add pretty patterns or extra detail; I often see them suggested for renters. Paint your cabinets in a warm grey or a cream. Invest in small items that won't bankrupt you. Small touches like a nice kettle, or fancy tea-towels make a surprising amount of difference.
