You seem to have made a good start. I think the key word is 'textures'. I always go to Ikea because they're fantastic for value and if you make a mistake, it's not the end of the world. Hunt down loads of cheap, jewel coloured cushions and then funk them up with gold braid (charity shops) or sequins. Similarly, you need more material at the windows to give an oppulent look but you can use end of lines for this. I got a fab pair of curtains from Argos for £13 then dyed them with Dylon and got the most sumptuous 'marine' blue. Similarly, you can get rugs from Ikea for as little as £1. Get a few and hang them on the walls - again, maybe stick a few fake jewels on here and there. If you're handy with a needle, cover your wooden chair with some fabric and a cushion or just give it a lick of rich, red or purple paint. I've hung a cream coloured, textured rug over my bed instesd of a headboard and it looks fab (if I say so myself!). Finally, would you go mad and tent the ceiling? The decorating programme, "Changing Rooms" in the 90's was forever tenting ceilings with butter muslin which is really cheap. Hope I haven't overwhelmed you with ideas - just wish I was in your position as it's an exciting project!

Can't you just board over them? NZ & French houses don't have exposed pipework, it's all in the walls as they have timber frame houses. I'd get a builder to build a timber framework and board over the top also boxing in the waste disposal. If you want acess to the waste disposal, you could make it look like a cupboard. Get a few quotes and see what the cost would be, it's probably less than you think.

Hi. I would go for grey on the walls. Which way does the room face and how much light does it get re using grey paint? If in budget, I'd have a look at patterned embroidered silk curtains (or Roman blinds depending on the window and space) with a grey/silver background. I would probably choose a chalk pink for accessorising the bed etc mixed with a little grey. If you have the room I'd go for a french bedroom chair in grey silk with a patterned pink cushion. I agree with Brandi some gold would really lift it. Perhaps a chandelier in antique gold with gold framed art or choose the chair with a antique gold frame. Or if the room is small maybe look at an ornate gold floor leaning mirror which will make the room feel bigger. What type of flooring do you have? Have a look on ebay and french antique sites such as french Depot for antique furniture to complete the look (or take a trip to a france!), it should be cheaper than buying new and will obviously suit the design. If space is really tight you can also look at ŵall sconces to be used as bedside tables

Hi Izzy Finn, your kitchen extension looks great! The area where the chimney breast is would be ideal for a living space with a sofa or armchairs etc. Using rugs will help zone the areas whilst still creating a flow/open feel in the room. As the space is lovely and neutral you could also be bolder with the chairs or sofa fabrics.
