Need help for my new room brick wall

I recently converted my garage to a room. One wall has quite few pipes as well as waste pipe. What can I do with these pipes? Any idea will be most appreciated.

Hi there! I love your brick wall! You can paint them white or any other colour and make them useful or even add more. Like the bookshelf made from pipes! I think that with a little effort and without big expenses you can transform this place into lovely home office.

Ideally move the pipes either towards the ceiling or the floor, and disguise with pipe covers, or skirting boards. Moving pipes should be quite easy, but if you haven't done it before, you should ask a plumber for help.

Are you thinking about replacing the back door and window for folding sliding or french doors - as the door is positioned at the moment - it eliminates boxing out the wall for a plaster finish or even T&G look ... But if you are changing the door and window to something else - you could factor building the wall out when you choose a new door !

Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light

Hi Imran, Very exciting to be starting your project! I'm not going to make any suggestions on how to layout your space as I'm not an expert but having just gone through a very similar process I thought a few words of advice might be helpful? We were looking at remodelling the downstairs of our house and got structural engineers and architects involved but to be honest it was our designer who was the most help and has stopped us making a couple of silly and costly mistakes with space planning (nothing to do with colours, paint choices or curtains!!!) I would highly recommend working with someone who can do some 3D models and renders of the proposed space for you, so you can see how it will all look. Our designer was amazing and we ended up with 4 or 5 different computer generated 3D images (and YouTube videos!!!) of how the space would look as you walked around it. Not only was it amazingly helpful but she also saved us a lot of money on structural work by pointing out things that would have been costly and not really add anything to the space. I've attached a couple of pics of our space and then the 3D images she did for us. Structural work and remodelling is expensive and our designer (Gina from Create Perfect) was a fraction of what we're spending on the house (far less than I would have expected) and has been worth her weight in gold for getting the space right! I was also surprised by the amount of money we saved using her trade discounts for things like worktops, appliances, carpeting and lighting etc) We're in the middle of building work right now, so I can't post any finished pics but my advice would definitely be to spend a little bit of money now and make sure you get it right as the wrong decisions with walls and structures are mistakes you can't change without a lot more time and money! Why not painting them over in a few block colours creating an industrial look? From the third picture it looks like they are nicely spaced and it would be rather inexpensive. Also a blind or flat curtain on the door in a similar colour or motive could complete the look.

I would remove the radiator and cover the wall with shelves with floor to ceiling doors - think fitted wardrobes (so that the pipes are at the back and hidden by objects). It would be useful storage and hide all the ugly pipes. Cheap to do and kills two birds with one stone.

Hi you don't say what you intend to use the room for. This would be helpful info if you do have a specific idea what its role is going to be. Kids den, office, dining room. Ideas can then focus a little better for you

You could just paint the whole wall white (cheap and EASY) personally I'd move the pipes and render

Although exposure of bricks is an option, they are modern bricks, so not really worth exposing.
Plaster over and move pipes.

Can't you just board over them? NZ & French houses don't have exposed pipework, it's all in the walls as they have timber frame houses. I'd get a builder to build a timber framework and board over the top also boxing in the waste disposal. If you want acess to the waste disposal, you could make it look like a cupboard. Get a few quotes and see what the cost would be, it's probably less than you think.

Some advise for others looking to convert....'finish before you begin', in other words think every project through to the end then you would have no conundrums, good luck.

I'd build a false wall to cover the pipes but have recessed shelves exposing the brick wall in the clear spaces. You can add down lighting to the recesses to optimise the feature.

Simply make the pipes look beautiful and they will serve you as decoration. And if you change radiators for some like this (see image), mmm.. :)

Being new to Houzz, I have just seen this posting and note that the comments made contain some good suggestions and possible solutions. I would like to point out, that whatever you do, you really should insulate the pipe work, as it will save you money, to go toward your new project..

I'd embrace it too....unless of course the rest of your house is country cottage etc...otherwise this space may stick out like a sore thumb...in which case I would build a false wall, or bookshelves, but you will have to be very carful of hanging anything on it, or you will pierce the pipes!...unless you move them all....
