Hello, In my opinion it could work if you select items carefully. I have collected some images for your inspiration, on the second one there is a patterned carpet which reminds me of victorian tiles, the dark wooden floor looks just amazing with the exposed brick wall as they are almost the same colour. However that interior is contemporary style considering the artworks on the wall. If I was in your case probably I would have the floor painted in dark, I would get a neutral colour carpet or a carpet with similar style to the one on the second image. StJames Design Interiors

Hi Marie! I think you have such a lovely space underneath the stairs, that it would be a shame to just put a console table there. The costings to get a carpenter to build a simple but effective display unit (see below) will probably be around £200-250. I think it would be great to use that space below to add something a bit more exciting, and you can add lovely bits of decor to make it even more wow! i.e vases, statues,plants etc...

I would consider bringing your dining table out into the space next to the door to inner courtyard and enlarging that doorway if you can to allow more light. The kitchen looks a bit dark and you have a lot of wasted space that I think could be put to better use. It looks like you have a small window from kitchen to inner courtyard could that become full height fixed window again to allow more light in to kitchen space. I would also consider fully built in storage under the stairs if you need it.
