Hi Angie, thank you so much for your reply. The plan is to do something like the picture below, though integrated appliances and a slight change of colour scheme/material of table. At the moment they're currently only base cabinets on that wall, so all I lose is one cabinet where I'm moving the fridge to (currently where the 'walkway' will be). I did consider a hatch and saw some lovely styles with beams etc to really elegant the room. However, I moved in here 7 weeks ago and I cannot tell you how much times it's frustrated me that I have to leave the table and walk round to the kitchen I.e my little one wants milk instead of water to drink, drops cutlery on the floor and needs a replacement, needs another napkin etc. The gap next to the radiator is quite small, however there's another one under the window so to be honest I have no issue capping this off, or changing it for a really slim tall one. Bookcase sounds like a good idea. Could do with the toy storage!

Hi George, there are a lot of different ways to achieve this. If you want to keep the existing furniture, it would be best to start by creating zones. This can be done in a multitude of ways. You can achieve this with paint colours, rugs, furniture, plants etc. The key is to ensure that both areas (the dining area and the sofa area) have a distinct zone while still giving the feel of a cohesive space. I think a rectangular island with one curved corner to match the shape of the room would probably give you the most useful space. Position it away from the narrow passage to the right so as not to block the access. You could also have an L shape and run the worksurface in a rectangle to as to tuck the barstools right under the island when you are not using them. The maximum overhang without a support is 300mm. Of course you could go over this with a support leg which could look really good. This will help give you more access space around the kitchen. It's a very interesting design.

If budget allows i would move the living/kitchen wall to the right and create a single line utilty with wc off of it. moving the entrance for the open plan room to the hallway and if you could also widen the right wall between the current living and dining room i would put the kitchen with island in the living room and seating and dining overlooking the garden.
