Here's an update on the work. I've finished the pebbledash first coat, and the painter did the fascias, soffits, door and window. The green I chose came out a lot darker than I thought, but never mind. What do you think? What's left to do is add some nice pots in front, put up the guttering (I'm going to do that now), another coat of the white masonry paint, and of course the most important part, put a cat image in the window!

Hi Lindsay, I don't think that your mirror is too big but as Fiona said it's a bit lonely on the mantle. You might want to "anchor" it, below is an example of what you can do. I don't have a software to do this so I used paint, hopefully you can look past the badly executed demonstration and see the idea behind all this ;-) Basically you want to balance the mirror with other pieces and give a bit of height to the whole look. I took the lamp and decorative lantern from the Houzz shop and tried to keep with a style that you might like, but obviously this is just to show you what you can do. I also 'painted' the inside of the opening black so you can see what it would look like after you remove the gate. Have a nice evening :-) Mehdia

We had a teeny upstand put on as I was going to put a metallic splashback across the whole of the back run. I ended up just painting it in a kitchen washable paint BUT it’s a nightmare! The tap is powerful and also a hot water tap and it splashes and leave marks on the paint (it is a dark paint so not the easiest to hide marks to be fair) and so I will plan to have some sort of easy wipe upstand put on at least 12” high now. Painted the damn thing about 4 times now, lol.

You will need to replace it. I would look for a stronger adhesive. You don't mention if the mirrors were existing when you bought/rented the property. Glues dry out with time and it looks like a dot and dab arrangement behind it using only spots of glue on plasterboard. I would have used battens and glued it all the way along. Can you get in touch with the installer as it shouldn't have happened? I would also be nervous about a repeat occurence.
