What will be the colour trend of 2016?

Pantone announces their Colour of the Year in December every year and it's always interesting to see what they think will be trending. This year, as you might remember, it was Marsala and the year before that it was Radiant Orchid.

If you could predict the colour trend of 2016, what would you go for? Vote and let us hear your predictions below!

I agree with Sherbert I think we'll see even more metals. I also think more marble, including the rougher version, is it called leathered? In terms of textiles, I think we'll see lots of different knits. They have hit the clothes shops and you are starting to see more and more in interiors. From a personal perspective I would love concrete sinks etc and antiqued mirrors to really take off so the prices would come down!

Muted tartans and plaids. Subtle, with historic precedence, or at least an updated pattern with a nod to the "original". Younger people, in particular, are longing for a sense of history and nostalgia in their design, albeit with an irreverent streak!

Having enough storage makes a huge difference to a kitchen - we had ours redone in 2015 & we decided on a lot of storage, with the cupboards scribed to the ceiling (no my dust at the top of the units) as well as useable long counter tops that are practical for preparing & cooking. There's a big difference between the colour we are told is 'the colour of the year' and the shades that people will ACTUALLY use. I work in retail, I restore, upcycle, whatever you like to call it, furniture and also sell vintage and new accessories and I gave up paying any attention to these announcements long ago. I once got incredibly excited (after years of painting everything white or cream) to see that a lovely vintage green was going to be the next big thing, I enthusiastically painted a 30's sideboard in a similar shade - it looked very Cath Kidson, everyone said how lovely it was - and it sat and it sat and it sat. So guess what? I repainted it white and it sold. And people wonder why I embraced grey and greige with such enthusiasm when they got popular, they seemed exotic in comparison :D

It seems to me that few home decorators are influenced completely by "trending" colours. We all know what we like and what we can live with. Perhaps trending colours should be used to accessorise, thus saving costly and time consuming mistakes. no one wants to be thought of as a shallow fashion victim.

Amen netschwester! I am becoming mystified by the continued references to 'sheeple' and design victims who apparently paint their homes all sorts of outlandish colours and fill them with bizarre decorations and furniture simply because they've been told it's fashionable. I'm certainly not one of them (all my bizarre stuff is entirely down to personal choice ;) and I can honestly say I've never met one either (and I work in interiors/retail) I think it more likely that people are inspired by images they see and then maybe try a colour or look they might not have considered before ie new fashions = more choice. It seems to be a stock response for some people when they don't like something and can't understand why anybody else would!

Trend is a word I dislike. Move over F&B! I have just come across the Mylands paint chart & I could eat every one of their colours.
