That sounds great. You can add the colours in through cushions, rug or wall art. I would personally stay away from the yellow lighting as it is on the picture. If you want a yellow lighting go for table lamps with yellow base rather than the shade. Also when you are choosing the fabrics, consider texture, not just plain. You can really express your personality through those. I would also try to balance the colours with a hint of orange. But this all will depend on the final choices you will make and how you will put the scheme together. Don't be afraid of adding colours into your scheme. There are no rules. Some work with 2 or 3 but I like working with 5 or even 6. Good luck!

Hello. I'm not really a nostalgia-fan (unlike my husband, will go misty-eyed & deploy 100mile stare at the drop of a trilby!) BUT we are currently doing a 'retro' concept in our living room, complete with a turntable clock and other bits of retro-inspired, but highly contemporary kitsch and quirk. Personally I find full-on retro rather tacky, superficial and soul-less, lacking personality, depth and individuality. On the flip-side, the most 'stylish' and inspiring examples I've seen of mid-century (and its relations) rooms have been those which appreciate the designs and the inspirations behind them, almost bestowing a timelessness on them, restoring a style credibility which had been lost. There was a fabulous example of this in a rental houseboat in Amsterdam - blending some of the post-war futuristic idealism design items, or 'Bond villain lair' (minus lasers and sharks of course) with contemporary high tech, for a result that was truly lust-inspiring. Now, if only I could find the photo....

Hi Yolanda - I'd change the stools, table and chairs, and swap the pendants for something in coloured glass or (personally) metallic, and change the cabinet handles from steel to brass/gold. Instant lift. Splashback-wise, try distressed mirror (suitably tempered and toughened) as it has loads of personality, bounces light around and is easy to clean. Then play with wall colour. Warm accents will stop the wood door from jarring so much (or paint it, if you can convince your husband). You have a lovely kitchen - will take very little to get it where you want!

I'm always a little suspicious of professionals using apostrophes incorrectly :-) but it looks like you've done a good job on the renovation. Personally I'm not a fan of a freestanding bath, nor an 'open plan' bathroom, but I was pleased to see you've kept the wooden ceiling (cladding) in the master suite. How did you manage to take it out in the first place? Or did you actually have to replace it?
