Hi. The room is looking really good. I might change the layout slightly, pull the sofa on the window ŵall down so it's not overlapping with the other sofa. I'd then put the 2 bookcases together on the door ŵall ( see how that looks anyway!). Add a floor lamp in the corner where the xmas tree is and potentially a table lamp in the corner on the White unit to really cosy up the room. Where the tv is you could create a ŵall of art. Google images of " art on tv ŵall" for layout ideas. I'd add a single piece of art over the sofa, go for something at least 1/2 of the length of the sofa but preferably a bit bigger. You can get art prints (maybe something scandi in style (?) so some with colour, some black/white) and then buy really cheap frames on ebay or b and q also do them. For table lamps try george at asda and maybe made.com for a reasonable floor lamp. I'd bring the table back in and accessorise ( include a plant maybe). Good luck!

Thanks Minnie! Great tips. The sofas shouldn't have been overlapping that was just laziness in shifting furniture after three full days of painting (lots of trim painted in other rooms as well as everything in here). Love the idea abou the bookcases, will see how that looks. I'm thinking of possibly painting the coffee table black and getting a piece of glass to put over the top to avoid scratches. I think having the two different woods in the entertainment unit and coffee table doesn't work so well.

Plant is a good idea too, am thinking maybe on the left hand end of the long sofa (there's a bit of space there) as my coffee table is more often than not my dining table so needs all the room it can get!

planning a trip to ikea for some cheap frames (Being in Australia I don't have b and q or Asda, more's the pity!) and going to make some paint chip artwork. Bringing colour in without needing particular artistic talent or costing the earth!

I'm not surprised after 3 days of painting! Maybe take a pic of the room with the table in? Black would be good or another option is to paint it grey so it "sits between" (can't think of the right word!) the black and white units? Lol, I didn't realise you were in Australia but at least you have ikea! Great idea for the art, another one is obviously wallpaper samples ( but something funky to go with the paint chips)

Have you ever considered a real interesting eye catching piece of art work to really brighten up your living area I think a select piece of art would really make the room stand out, add interest and add a great talking point to the room....
