Fireplace/ TV area

Really want to turn this into a contemporary wall. Fireplace is fighting with TV and alcove and is too busy. Would like a very modern, clean look. Any ideas? I would expect to replace the fireplace. Thanks.

    What is the wall made of? What. on the other side of the wall? What sort of fire is it? Is there a chimney?

    Depends on your appetite for work really - and the size of the room. If you aren't afraid of a bit of carpentry you could make it really contemporary...

    The wall is a solid brick wall. Currently the fire is a gas one and there is a chimney. Yes - happy to get someone to do the work needed to turn it into something very contemporary. I think the alcove needs filling in - what do you think?
