Hi Jo, This is a good question! Our lighting design team take great pride in lighting for our projects as there are many technical factors to consider such as lumens, colour temperature, compatibility etc. With your scenario I would recommend an ENLITE 9w GLS E27 LED lamp http://enlitelighting.com/Lighting-Products/LED-Lamps/EDim-Dimmable-Lamps/240V-9W-GLS-Dimmable-E27-LED-Lamp-4.aspx This lamp is dimmable, most LED lamps incorporate dimmable functionality now even if you don’t require it. The great thing about LED lamps is that they use less power (i.e. your electrical bill wouldn’t be as high!), last longer and most can provide near enough the same light as the ‘old style’ lamps. This particular one is 810 lumens which is equal to about 60w and comes in a warm white colour temperature (2700k). You can purchase this lamp at many electrical wholesalers. If you’re unable to purchase this particular lamp, then look for at least 800 lumens in LED to provide light greater than 40w. I hope that helps!

I agree that's you need multiple light sources. In my opinion when you are sat on the sofa of an evening you need table lamps to watch Tv and just enough of a glow from the kitchen that you can find the fridge to pour more wine. When you have guests at the dining table I think you need need an overhead decorative pendant or chandelier on a dimmer to set the right mood but you also need to be able to turn it up if you are working from home and using that table. I would only have the spots in the kitchen area- probably 6 or 8 will be plenty. Put them on a dimmer too and then add over cabinet and under cabinet light

I know what you are saying. I've taken pics of them both on our old cutlery drawer (ignore the grubby marks!). What do you think? Our old kitchen knobs pronounced further than the mushroom ones actually. I think the HB ones are nice but my favourite ones are still the AM - we've gone over budget on so many things already but I dint want to get the hardware wrong as it is so important.

Hi Patrizia, Ok so for the island, I take it there is an extractor fan in the middle for the hob? If so I would stick to the 2 spots either side and make sure your extractor fan has lighting (they usually do). The alternative could be to have a downdraft extractor fan (if it is still possible to change this). They are not as expensive as you might think, obviously as with everything you get what you pay for. Here's one relatively cheap but can fetch up to 2K! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cookology-CDD900BK-Kitchen-Downdraft-Extractor/dp/B0191SSA5I  If you do decide to have downdraft extractor fan, I would ditch the spots and put three pendant lights. This is going to to add instant character and statement pieces into your kitchen without looking like a football stadium! For the dining area I would also suggest to have one medium sized chandelier modern/traditional whatever you fancy.
