The red accessories in the room look lovely with your furniture, a neutral colour paint with a red undertone for the walls and adding some more red accessories like a rug & cushions would most definitely warm the space up.

You need to look at this from a different point of view... north facing light is very cold and you need to use mid tones with warm. Instead of have pale walls and dark furniture, reverse it to have mid tone warm grey on the walls and light/colourful tones on furnishings. You would need to put a cream throw on your sofa to achieve this, plus paint the ceiling in a warm white or cream. Also artificial lighting is key in a warm white, a cheap option is to put at least three table/floor lamps in the corners of the room. A cream or light colourful rug will add interest, plus I suggest colourful accents in three warm/muted colours e.g. duck egg, orange, yellow. Red or yellow can look very tatty in north facing light.

There's not much wrong with the decor as it is. It could be brighter if you turned on all the lighting or opened the shutters sometimes. I think what is missing is either cut flowers or plants which bring life to the indoors. The picture behind the sofa is very dark, so maybe looking out for a big, lighter piece of art or maybe making one yourself...is something creative you could do.

Hi elg684 Not sure I would mix yellow with brown sofa! Your sofa and window shutters are lovely. Have you thought of perhaps adding aquas, blues, navy blues, turquoise colours? Pictures attached. Love to see finished look.

I love your living room which has big windows, so there are many areas you can play around.

1. Accessorise you room with accents in palettes of sunshine yellow, turquoise, fuchsia and even accents of silver. Not only you can add throw cushions of bright Colours, but you can also include things like photo frames, little wall or table decor (such as candle holders, table runners & etc)

2. I saw a huge wall which you can play with too. I would suggest to hang a modern picture or you can even style it with a bevelled mirror, frameless.

3. A way which to make your place extremely welcoming is to place plants! It can be a standalone pot with dark green leaves or a big vase of flowers.
