Hi we're about to replace bathroom in Victorian house. The only possible configuration is with shower over bath in front original wooden sash window and we're concerned about effect of constant water on the window - do you have any suggestions as this shower looks similarly placed. Many thanks

Hi Shampson84,

It looks like the window in this photo is uPVC so it wouldn't suffer such water impact/absorption as a traditional timber sash.
Perhaps if you can show some photos/plans of your bathroom, we might be able to see if there are any ways around this or to improve the waterproofing?

Hi Lauren! I worked on a project with a similar situation! The windows were in a spare bedroom, so ideally they really did need to be covered at night time, however only when people were staying over. We had venetian blinds made for the standard rectangular window, then for the 2 angled windows, we produced a 'shield'. Basically, we got our joiner to make two shields which were templated to the same shape as the window reveals, with a handle in the centre, which then hooked on to the window. So they could be taken up and down as you wish. They were produced in oak and finished the same colour as the rest of the joinery and blinds, with a handle in pewter to match the rest of the ironmongery in the house. Unfortunately I don't have ay photos of the shields, but you can see the window, and the hooks that the shield mounts on to! We found this to be the most simple, unfussy option, and you are still able to see the windows in their full glory. The shields are kept in the cupboard when not being used. I hope this helps! Can I use corian for a window sill for a window within a shower area?

My friend has Corian in her kitchen as a seamless worktop, sink and splash back. She also has it up and over the window sill. It looks great but it does scratch easily and it does leave watermarks. She had been talked into it by the kitchen company which she now regrets. It wasn’t cheap. I think granite is incredibly hardwearing if your budget stretches to it. Quartz is very popular too.

Hi Jason! Personnally I wouldn't block it, I think that it would be a waste of money. Even if it doesn't bring enough light from the outside currently, it will still help with air circulation. And you don't even need tons of natural light in your bathroom to create a fabulous space ;) I previously designed a bathroom that doesn't even have a window. By modifying the lighting and playing with some colours it really changed the perception of the space! This is the bathroom at the moment ... It's quite small and not really an alternative location/orientation for bath/shower ... Any suggestions welcome

Hi shampson84 - thanks for the photo :)

Well, it's twice the size of my bathroom - so not that small! Presumably circa 1.8m wide, and looks to be just over 3m long... The trickest bit is not the location of the window, but the fact that the window sill is quite so low. Otherwise you could have relocated the WC or basin/vanity there.

Is there enough room to have a bathtub under the window, and a separate shower cubicle in the room too? If you swapped the wash hand basin to sit opposite the WC, is there room in the space it previously occupied? It probably depends on the entrance door, and whether there is a clash - but a bath is circa 750mm wide, WC ideally needs 700mm+, which would give 1.5m ish for a shower. It would mean the 'gap' to access the bath between the WC and the basin would be pretty narrow though.

It also looks like your soil pipe runs under through/under your bath panel - so might be worth bearing that in mind if you want to install a freestanding bath (ie you'll see the pipe unless you re route the drainage)
