Thanks, kayq93, I am really pleased with it. It's a South facing room with big windows and gets lots of light so is able to take the black and grey. I painted the dining room window sills black to mirror the granite counter in the kitchen; my husband wasn't too sure but I think it looks fab. My husband is a voracious reader and we found a wall- mounted glass & chrome shelving unit which accommodates a surprising number of books but is stylish and unobtrusive, I think.

Hello Claudia, Speaking from an art on walls point of view, I'm loving the challenge, so I present a few choice pieces for the wall above your two armchairs that I think will be a happy compliment to your existing decor and furnishings: As regards the picture above your piano, the colours work well with your room but you don't like the subject, right? If that's the case, this consideration will have to be a decision based on what subject(s) you really like or are quite sentimental to, as opposed to colour matching an art piece just to fit in with the rest of the room. If you do play the piano, musicians are very sentimental people, so you want something above the piano that you can "feel and connect to" when you're sitting there playing. It has to be sentimental to you, irrespective of what it is and what colour it may be, and not to consider it as part of the rooms overall decor. I know you are saying you want something with green but have you thought of a blue rug? A deep blue with not much pattern to tie everything together and bring some groundless to your space. At the moment everything is grey, pale or pastel colours with pattern or solid surfaces and the space needs an element of groundless to bring all elements together. The colour blue is the number one colour that is easiest to perceive by the human eye, therefore it will never feel heavy or overwhelming for you to look at. It will also provide a nice complimentary composition for all your other accent colours. I wouldn't use green as the wrong green can be very harsh to the eyes. Green and grey are also two colours that are currently trendy but will be out of style soon, when the trend is over.
