Fitted wardrobes

I'm moving into a new house soon and it has really dated fitted wardrobes. We a re renting so don't want to spend too much updating them. Do you think Annie Sloan paint will cover them without too much messing around??

It should do. You may need to water it down slightly as it's very thick. I'd recommend sugar soaping them first to remove any grime. If you can remove the beading and replace the knobs that will make them look more contemporary too. Good luck!

Are the fitted wardrobes in the rented house? If so, don't do a thing without talking to your landlord first, he/she might do something about them for you, like put new doors on from Howdens, he might pay for the paint/painting or he might say he doesn't want to change them as they are serviceable and clean, whatever, the property isn't yours, so check first, otherwise you might not get your deposit back, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, tread carefully!

Don't sand a laminate door with a palm sander, you'll likely go through the laminate. Although I usually lightly sand with a fine grade paper by hand..........just to be sure the paint will stick.................with today's products it's accepted that it's not necessary. Use this paint as the primer, being water based it will not restrict you to which paint you can put over the top. Zinsser 1-2-3 ( water based version ) Roller all paint on with a small gloss roller for a nice flat and even finish. Take the doors off also................I know that sounds obvious, but i've rescued a lot of calamities.

Might it be easier to have the door widened to open up access better? The coving would stay where it is that way. It looks like a chimney breast perhaps, so need to be careful to maintain structural integrity of the building.

I have used Modern Eggshell. I never ised dead flat so cannot comment on durability but Modern Eggshell is very good, no chips or scratches, - the key though is to let it cure before you use the furniture. Curing is different from drying, so for example it may be touch dry and ready for second coat after 2h, but curing takes two weeks, which is when the paint properly hardens. its worth the wait. also i trully recommend that Zinser priming paint, it is strange to use (a bit like waterly glue) but sticks to everything and binds the paint brilliantly

I agree with both comments. If you're going for a light colour I personally find Annie Sloan coverage really poor although really good for other colours and it definitely needs watering down!
