Too many different styles of wood
Comments (6)I must confess, i'm totally ok with mixing old and new, but mixing types of wood and wood colourings maybe not so much. The trouble is that you stand the risk of making the different finishes clash unless you go for total contrasts, ie: Stained / waxed or varnished floorboards with maybe a White Ash Laminate or anything else that's very pale, or conversely the other way around, White washed / limed floor and a dark laminate wall. This also all depends on what period furniture you've aquired. Do you have any pics? If the Furniture is mahogany say, then that will sit very well on a white floor and with a dark wall. Oak, Satinwood, beech will be harder to place as you can't put it against a mid-colour wall as it will be rather lost into it....See Morehow many flooring types is too many?

My kitchen is slate effect porcelein tiles, sitting room and hall is rustic oak laminate with a Persian rug in the sitting room. My stairs are carpeted. That’s variety for you!...See MorePorcelain Paving Rocks for Creating a Stunning Patio Paving

Comments (7)Oval dining tables are able to seat everyone comfortably and a good choice. Not so easy to come by however! Maybe a glass top table would add a bit of sparkle/bounce light around the area? If you have kids an oval or round extending to oval best. My dining table is oval with extra leaf added to round top and I keep it as extended. Might be easier to find round to oval than just looking for fixed oval top? Choose a sofa with neutral but washable loose covers (ie machine wash) and add colourful cushions to make a statement. As your wood in new kitchen is dark and warm tones, follow the warm tones with dining table/chair/sofa legs in dark wood....See More- 10 years ago
