Hi, I agree with Nancy a white wooden bed would be great in your bedroom especially as you have painted your door white and your skirting is white also, or alternatively a darker grey fabric headboard would also be stunning with white bedding.. Wall colour is a very personal choice but i would recommend a light grey by The little Greene company No. 224 (INOX) i think it would work well with your existing patten and will not be to over powering in the room. See link: http://www.littlegreene.com/paint/colour/grey-paint-colours/inox-224 I would re-sintall the fireplace if you can as would bring back that classic look you are going for, keeping a white surround or shelf would also keep the room feeling light and airy. Pop some frames or artwork up on the walls behind the bed and maybe a mirror about the fireplace (if you re-install) and i think you will have a very stunning bedroom. I hope this is helpful, please email me if you would like to chat. Peach x

Really depends on what value you put on kitchen living spaces v's large bedroom spaces idea 1: would be to change reception 1 into open plan kitchen living space and then put corridor where kitchen and bed 1 is to create bed 2 as shown, kitchen living space to the front and bedroom bathroom study to the rear, the study room could double up as an occasional bedroom if required or dressing room or even ensuite. hope this helps

I teach colour theory to art students and it's such a vast subject in terms of interiors. I read something once that said' how do you want a room to feel' and I think that's a good starting point. I recently bought a house that has some rooms that are a bit dark but it had a slightly seventies vibe. I have gone for this vibe throughout the house and used a limited palette based on what I already owned and the feel I was after. I picked out pale neutral colours that would work in light spaces, and related deeper ones that would work in darker spaces and a woodwork colour that could be used through out. The only difficult issue I find is not colour but temperature. Mixing cool neutrals and warm neutrals is difficult, light rooms can take anything but a north facing room with grey tiles and grey walls will not feel 'on trend' it will feel cold. So - make sure there is wood, and consider a palette that has some warmth (and that doesn't mean just reds and oranges but warm greens, warm greys etc). Also consider if the rooms are day rooms or night time rooms, that is important. Hope this helps.

Many thanks for all your comments. Really good food for thoughts. I had a few “loft specialist” quotes and we almost went for it. But the reason we did not is that all those specialist lofts companies were not willing to do the rest of the house (eg electric and plaster/painting in living room/dining room, installation of wooden floor in ground floor, reroofing...) so we would have to employ a separate company for this; which obviously make the project more expensive and not streamlined. I think our project is “small” but maybe it is not :) And does deserve a proper architect /design to start with... I will keep you updated ;)
