I don't have the patience the read through what everyone said. But, you have a GREAT space already. The fireplace is fabulous, it only needs an wooden mantle. On that wall where you have those shelves, on half of it, you should place a book case on the entire wall, or almost (Ikea used to have them). It sounds like you ahve some readers in the household, so why not showcase your books there? Plus, it will dress that wall beautifully. You can paint the walls, or not. But if you do these two things that I mentioned, that space will look like a million bucks. A plus would be to add some lighting, but not the modern looking lamp you have there now. Something that would warm up the place, wither on each side of the book case, or by the fireplace.

Lights which automatically turn on when I enter a room (especially in the kitchen and in the hallway from the bedroom to the bathroom) and lights inside my wardrobes (especially inside the one in the bedroom: I often get up earlier than my hubby, and it may be still dark outside, and I don't want to wake him up while I'm looking for my stockings).

Hi Samantha, You could have the legs touching the slope to create a real table effect otherwise a floating bedside table looks fantastic too. Being as it’s a small room, white will do good and make it appear airy which you want really. I think grey could clash with the feature wall so I would recommend duck egg blue on the walls if not white. If you do go for the duck egg walls, then definitely incorporate some white in the bedding and then duck egg blue and grey accessories. These cool shades will do wonders for the size of the space. Like the above suggestions, blinds will diffuse more light into the room as well. White wood effect would look lovely! It will compliment for the bedroom furniture for sure.

Hi Caroline Thanks for your comments! Believe it or not, yes, this is supposed to be the dining room and we had the play and lounge area on the lower floor...trouble was that A) Anytime my wife was doing something in the kitchen, the little one didn't want to be left alone downstairs so left her toys and came trotting upstairs where understandably she was bored as there were no toys there!! Aswell, socialising became a little difficult as anytime anything was needed from the kitchen we had to run upstairs and leave the guests alone so ultimately it has worked out best to have the dining room / Study downstairs and bring the play and lounge area upstairs to be on the same level as the kitchen...Just struggling to accommodate all the needs in such a small space especially as we like to keep it clear as it doubles as access to the kitchen!
