Well done for choosing a product made of preservative treated timber (tanalised). The finish you put on needs only to be decorative. My favourite product for a garden building is Osmo Country colour. This is a natural product and is pleasant to apply with no noxious smells. http://www.osmouk.com/sitechaptern.cfm?bookid=Products&chapter=82&page=265 They do not do a cream but I would suggest something a bit duller unless you want the garden building to stand out. Also you do get dirt and staining after a while and cream will show this up unless you like painting and want to put another coat on every year. You could try light grey or pebble grey. I did a garden shed in Dove Blue which looks good among foliage. Do make sure that the building is designed to take the weight of a green roof.

It all looks great and begins to integrate the house with the garden. It needs some good landscaping of the garden space though to add more of a feeling of privacy and nature.

Hi Daniel, The bearing of your property should not inhibit your ability to have a green roof, generally it just requires different varieties of plants which can thrive in shade to be used. I have no expertise in the type of plants which can be used but a good green roof supplier will be able to advise you on this. There are a couple of other things to also consider. Firstly the thickness of the roof will be thicker than conventional roofs and the structure will likely need to be bolstered to accommodate the additional load of this. Secondly consider the access and maintenance of the roof. Visually, green roofs can be a great design addition when done well, and can really enhance the thermal performance of your property helping it to retain heat in the winter and keep cool in summer.
