I would stick to neutral colours as your kitchen sounds quite contemporary and anything to flashy may upset the balance. Black glass looks very elegant but a white or transparent splash back will help to open the room up. Grey is a good middle ground but too much grey can look rather drab. I would say that the deciding factor should be the size of the kitchen as black may close the room in. But it is wise in my opinion to go for the same finish as you have for the work tops. I have enclosed a CAD design of a kitchen with cashmere cupboards and a black glass splash back for inspiration. Would love to see some pictures of your kitchen!

Looks like a really good quality kitchen. I think painting it any “country farmhouse” colour would sit well. My friend had an oak kitchen with black granite worktops and she had hers painted white, more a soft off white rather than brilliant white and it looks so good. It would brighten it up no end and would go really nice with an oak style floor.

Your kitchen plans sound absolutely stunning! For a warm neutral that complements your deep forest green cabinetry without leaning too pink or green, you might love Hardwick White or Charleston Gray from Farrow & Ball. Hardwick White has a beautifully soft, warm stone quality that works well in varying light, while Charleston Gray brings a refined taupe tone that pairs effortlessly with oak and antique brass accents. Both should add a timeless, elegant contrast while keeping the space warm and inviting. Hope that helps, and best of luck with your kitchen—it's going to look amazing!

Thanks all – reassuring to know we’re not alone in our indecision! We also considered the anthracite grey, Egyptian cotton (to match the walls), or a green. I worry green will stand out too much, while my husband thinks grey might make the darkest corner even gloomier. Egyptian cotton feels safest, though we fear it’ll show the dirt very easily. @Living ideas – we have a set of Edwardian chairs my husband is overly attached to, and plan to match the upholstery to the final palette. I love the idea of a stone or marble table (with a glass top for protection), but I’m still figuring out how to tie everything together.
