Help needed with fireplace colours, tiles, decor
Help needed to change this fireplace. The fire itself is fine. I'm after some help with colours to maybe paint the wood and tiles that can maybe be replaced or painted over and what to add above it.. I don't need a TV and not too sure about a mirror. Would like to not have the candles etc anymore either... looking for a stylish alternative but not sure what paint and tiles would go... I'm happy with the neutral carpet and walls. Any help/advice gratefully received.

PRO9 years agoDo you have a preference to the other accessory colours in the room? What furniture does it need to sit with?
Personally i'd go for the 'less is more' approach. By painting the whole thing dark it will give you a dramatic back drop for the accessories on the fireplace, mirror, vases, candles, flowers etc

Comments (8)Thanks for the pics. I would pull the sofas apart a little as the arms are overlapping a little or try one in front of the door/window and accessorise the table between them. In terms of colour if the carpet is staying I'd look at a warm greige for a more modern look or a pale but warm green to work with the paper as well as the floor. There's quite a lot of dark furniture, I'd paint the door frames and maybe the china cabinet, something like a pale turquoise? You could also paint the dining chair frames just to lighten them up (appreciate you may not want to though!). I would also paint the fire but in a whitewash, build up the layers so the brick is still showing through rather than a solid white look which can look cold. Perhaps swap some of the striped cushions for some florals and add a textured throw over one arm. I would try grouping some of the accessories together. Is there a plug socket where the wallpaper is as a lamp would look good and add some height? In future I might consider a coffee table or upholstered footstool. Maybe a plant next to the tv in a jute or other natural plant holder. I'll try and find some pics for accessorising the fireplace. Comments (9)That's more or less the same colour doors as my kitchen. I have pale grey on my walls but have a feature wall in lime green. Perhaps you could do a feature wall? Lime green and orange look good with greys. If you Google images putting in some keywords it'll bring up some great photos. Comments (5)Hi all! I though I thought I would show you the progress on our living room. South Africa went into Covid lock-down just as I planned to start working on the room, so I had to wait a bit until some of the industries started up again. We re-covered the two bucket chairs in a dark gray colour. It came out a little bit lighter than I wanted, but it still looks good to me. I also bought a jute rug to replace the red one, I really think it makes the coffee table stand out better. I also put up some of my framed paintings and vacation pictures. This is pretty much how things will stay for a while. Future plans include: It's my husband's job to tidy up/hide all the wiring and remove some of the tech stuff in the corner, he promised it will look much better once he's done. I am hinting at buying/inheriting a vintage hospital standing lamp from my dad to place next to the leather couch, maybe I'll paint it black to match the picture frames. Some time in the future I will find some side tables and a table lamp to go next to the chairs and the wood framed couch. Another painting will also go above the couch where the newspaper placeholder is currently. Since these pictures were taken I have swapped the positions of the chairs and the wood framed couch, and to me both configurations look good, I have no preference.
