Need help with storage!!

Hi all,

I'm struggling with storage space in my rented room and am not sure what I can do! I've attached a rough floor plan, the only thing I can think of is to rotate the bed and put a chest of drawers in the bottom left corner. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Yes I would do this, and have one or two chests of drawers as your bedside tables.

Right, when needed, my cheap graphic app decides not to work. I'll try and explain it to you. First, let's work with what you have at the moment. I'd move the microwave on a shelf on top of the sink, on the fridge or thereabouts. Not sure where a plug is, but you must have one on that wall. In this way, you keep the kitchen stuff in that area. Your Tv looks like it could go on the shelf where the microwave is now; if not, you could either buy a low stand or have it hanging up on the wall. You can then add more shelves around it, something like in the pic below. The wall where your desk is at the moment can also take some narrow cabinets or shelving. Again, I'd use walls and the height of the room to get the extra space, leaving the floor not too busy; if you get some narrow cabinets or shelves, you can achieve a great look. Or, have the TV on the wall with the desk, move the sofa in front of it and get the round dining table at the other end of the room. I hope it makes sense. What do you need to store and are there children in your home? If no kids I would suggest a tall shelved cupboard or armoire. If you have children I would go for a low sideboard in a living room or shelving with crates if it going somewhere more utilitarian - Rapid Racking has a good selection of shelves with crates.

I think swapping the patio doors for a proper front door would be a great idea. I don’t get why people have sliders at the front of the house, just looks odd and everything is on view. I think storage with doors is the way to go. Open shelving just looks untidy. This unit is from Etsy, but I’m sure a good carpenter can make it for you, or if budget is tight then worth looking to see if IKEA do something similar?

Thanks! I went for these drawers from IKEA for one side of the bed and a tall floor lamp for the other as a second set wouldn't quite fit, sadly
