Old timber door removed and replaced with a multipoint locked stable door colour matched to the timber windows. Double glazed glass and tradition ironwork for the hardware.

Good. They look like a kind of bland reproduction composite thing replacing what seemed a more interesting hardwood door, that looked like it just needed a lick of paint. I suppose it can be hard to tell from a photo sometimes.

Thanks for the comments guys! @jonathan The fireplace is a feature which ties the lounge/kichten to that area of the house. We could move it but we’re trying to do this on a budget. @andrewbooton I’m not massively keen on large open spaces, aren’t they echoy and chard to heat? I think we’re after broken plan over open plan. I’ll upload a layout of our best ideas to date so you can see what we’re thinking.

Paint double doors or leave them as they are?

While I’m sure it’s a travesty to paint mahogany, and my son couldn’t believe I had our oak furniture painted, I really think they look very heavy with the rest of the room. I think you should definitely paint them white. Alternatively you could sell them to Save them being painted and replace them, if you wanted to, with something much lighter and possibly sliding. They wouldn’t be in the way at all then.
