Backsplash Above Sink

I am currently installing a 3x6 backsplash and am not sure what to do with the window area above the sink.
Stop on the outer edge? If so how do I finish the edge?
Wrap around the edge and also tile the inside of the window to the same height as the backsplash? If so how do I wrap the tile?
Finally, wrap around the edge and go all the way up the window on the inside and front side to the the ceiling? Again, if so, how to deal with wrapping around edge?

Comments (32)Tiles are one way to introduce some pops of colour in your kitchen. If you are worried about the grout discolouring, use epoxy grout which is more resilient to liquid staining. Also, if you use a coloured grout, discolouration will be less noticeable. If you choose textured tiles with rectilinear edges, grout lines are almost invisible. Using tiles can look more traditional compared to glass or stainless steel. The problem with stainless steel is keeping it looking good. Drip marks and grease are instantly noticeable. Glass is less obvious when splashed. They are both more industrial and modern looking. What about using the same material that makes up your worktop as the splashback? You are so right, holding your nerves whilst it’s going up is the hardest!! . I did opt for a splash back only and extended it so it goes a little under the cupboards. Comments (10)Be brave, and go dark! Often people are scared to as they think it makes a room smaller but actually it can have the opposite effect. Blurring the finishing lines of the room can give the illusion of more space, and if the space isn't particularly bright anyway, embrace it! I can't frame the window with wood trim as the edge is too slim.

9 years agoDo not wrap. Either end with cut edges of the tiles at the window edge (they can be polished to make that ok) or use a Schluyter-type edging there. If you go inside the window you just double the problems at the outside corner. Here are two examples where I did it with or without edging (in these cases with glass tile):
(The second one has the metal edging just around the top and window edges -- hardly visible.)
