Beautiful photos! Ours (from Pickering, grafted on to R. multiflora) threw up 15 foot canes. We moved it along a rail fence where we hope to train its canes horizontally. Very strong fragrance but struggles with powdery mildew at times.

I adore this rose. I moved one of mine and it died. I was so mad at myself. My other one is fine thankfully.

I loved it too, but it caught every disease that came along. I had to go in and prune out the mildewed or rusted or BSed parts about three times a summer. I had three, grown together in the recommended way and they grew into a tangled mess.

Faults!! What faults? You are talking about one of my favourite Austins!! I refuse to see any blemishes such as BS. Your spectacles must be dirty with black spots on the lenses!

How does this DA rose go in direct/most of the day sun? Does it need constant watering to survive? I mean in a warm dry climate like mine.

Perth is very warm and dry and it does very well here. But it does get BS over the cooler months. Nothing overly earth shattering and not as badly as MIP, but I'd be lying if i said it was disease free. That said, I never spray and it still looks alright for the mosy part. What is less forgivable ate the octopus canes. But that is only because mine is planted very close to the path. I have seen it in a specimen garden with room to sprawl and it looked amazing. I think it is definitely a rose for a bigger block where you have a nice sunny corner for it to stretch its arms.

Thanks, Adam. Could it be fanned out as a climber on a lattice fence, do you think? If so, what would be the minimum ground space do you think it would need? Oh, and is yours in full sun including afternoon sun, and how often do you water it in the warmer months?

Mine is watered 3 times a week (thanks to a bore) via overhead spray in the warmer months and not at all over winter. Its in full sun all day. I'll try and find the pic of the specimen I'm talking about...

This photo shows everything that is both right and wrong about RT.

I think RT is another desert rose like 'Evelyn' and SDLM. I had the three in CA hot and dry Central Valley, and I think I watered them about once a month. One spring when there was a lot of rain, 'Mr. Lincoln' produced blooms the size of dinner plates, and RT was covered with mildew, rust AND BS all at once. If I were to grow it again, in a suitable climate, I think I would cut it back severely about once every 2-3 years. It seemed to me to have quite a few China-ish characteristics, such as moderate water requirement, rapid repeat bloom, and quick growback from pruning.

I love this rose its such a girly frilly pink!
