Advice on hobs - domino for gas & induction?
Comments (4)I am on my second induction hob. Both in an island. Would I swap back to gas (which was what I had previously) not a chance. Induction all the way. It's economical to run, fast as most rings have booster buttons and very clean. Image cooking a frying pan of bacon and sausage. The spit of the fat goes everywhere. With gas you have to dismantle the whole top of the hob. With an induction hob you spray with something like Ciff and wipe off with a damp cloth. Buff with a microfibre cloth and hey presto done. My first was an AEG which was brilliant. Almost 10 years later and poof, caput. I now have a Bosch which is excellent but doesn't have the option of having the booster on every ring at the same time. Just a small thing, other to that no difference between the two. Choose no edging on for easy clean and no knobs. I cannot praise the invention of induction jobs enough. Absolutely marvellous....See MoreMy new kitchen needs a new hob and I am lost as to which fuel to get
Comments (6)If you have a magnet, hold it to the Le Creuset pots. If it sticks to the pot, you can use it on an induction hob. I’ve recently switched from gas to induction. Induction is much quicker and you can let the burner switch off automatically after a set time. And it’s easy to clean. So far the advantages I’ve found. Disadvantages: can’t see the flame, so have to work out what the settings do. I’m taking a long time to get used to that, but then again, I’ve only ever cooked on gas before. Sometimes the pans make an annoying high pitched tone. I had to buy new pans, but my big iron stew pot (not Le Creuset) should work on it. Haven’t used it yet, but it is magnetic. For my other pans I went to IKEA and got a great set with heavy glass lids from there. Very happy with them. Had to say goodbye to one of my big iron frying pans, because the bottom was slightly warped and then it doesn’t work well either. All in all I’m happy with the induction hob. I love the speed. But I think I still prefer gas. Anyway... we have a downdraft in an island, so gas wasn’t an option. But you could do both perhaps? Two gas burners, two induction ones for example?...See MoreAre induction hobs dangerous?
Comments (10)There are stringent tests on all products before they are launched into the UK market. If you feel that these aren’t sufficient and you feel there’s a danger - don’t buy one. I have faith in the companies testing these products and consequently I have an induction range cooker. This may be proved wrong at some point - it might be a bad thing - but at the moment industry standards are saying they are fine, and it’s so much easier to clean and is just like cooking on gas (with no residual heat or slow start etc ) - I wouldn’t want to go back to gas now....See MoreHelp on various kitchen decisions before ordering next week!
Comments (19)Thanks everyone for your helpful comments - GJ Dee thanks for your compliments we love the handles too! I think we will stick with one large sink, our old kitchen had a 35cm wide sink and no small sink, it was fine but when we needed to wash up our large saucepan which couldn’t go in the dishwasher it was a nightmare because it didn’t fit! Black sink would be nice but would be concerned about limescale as we do get quite a bit! Possibly we might be able to make the sink unit 800mm then can have a big sink then a little sink - will have to check if it fits as we still need a decent amount of circulation room around the island. MATH - I love that splashback! Do you mean have the brass directly behind the hob and then the rest of the wall tiles? I suppose if we use a lighter grout if the tiles are not directly behind the hob it is less likely to get mucky. We were originally going for just brass for the handles as don’t want to overdo the whole brass thing but will have a think about it! Watermark - omg your taps are beautiful! I think we are set on a cheap basic tap for the kitchen but looking for some nice brass taps for the bathroom so will send an enquiry through!...See More- 9 years ago
