Windowless playroom

Hi all - I am wondering if anyone can help. We have just converted our garage as a bit of a family/play room but it is windowless and wondering how to get the best lighting for it. Does anyone know whether GU10 recessed LED spot lights with 500 lumens bulbs would be fine? Would it be best to go for cool or warm light? The room is about 9ft by 11ft so I was thinking 5 - spotlights - would that be about right?

Lights aren't sorted obviously so excuse the very dark picture! I wondered about putting this wallpaper up as well on one of the walls - I thought since there is no window maybe I should try for something a bit green with white on the walls and some colourful animal pics etc - anyone got any thoughts on whether this will work or look too busy - thanks in advance

Thanks Minnie those are really helpful comments. The family bathroom walls are from the original house walls. The architect suggested the cubby hole for the toilet as he thinks moving the walls would be too big a job. But I agree that I'd prefer it enlarged properly, that bath is actually 1.4m long, the smallest we could find which would fit the new limited space. We have a builder coming round tomorrow so I will ask him about moving the wall. The utility room is 2.2m wide. 60cm for units each side with 1m gap. We are planning on leaving the units out of one side for now for buggy storage, but I would like to put more storage in there when that's out of the way as we are losing our garage which stored all the junk up to now. So maybe we should enlarge it to 2.4m? The only reason I didn't go for the sofa facing the bifolds and garden was that it meant blocking in the play room slightly, but perhaps it could work with a corner sofa, or like you said a smaller sofa. that would also solve the glare issue. A coffee table a foot stool would be great I think. We haven't put too much thought into to the island as this wasn't necessary for planning, but I definitely want some foot stools. We did talk about maybe having it come out from the side of the wall instead of an island. We have that now and quite like it. But the plan is to have the dishwasher etc under there, plus leg space for stools. Yes that's the Fridge Freezer. I just plonked it there as I'm not sure where else it could go really. I guess next to the windowless neighbours wall where the hob is currently.

My consistent recommendation is the Halers H2 Pro units in the 60 degree option. You'll need the warm white colour, which give you a nice slightly off white tone. The other options give a real crystal white / blue effect and they're not nice for home use. They're not cheap, about £35 each for the dimmable (which you may as well get). you don't need a transformer, just wire them in, and they have a 7 year no questions warranty. You'll have to buy the bezels as they're not included, but they're only 99p and you can have most colours / materials.

Quick update: The three bedrooms and landing were spray painted. Not entirely convinced it saved labour and have to factor in purchase of spray painter and used double the amount of emulsion. Plus felt guilty not using my regular decorator :( We have now started work downstairs. At the rear of the house (see plan posted previously) was a bedroom and dining room. Decided to take out the wall between the two to make the two rooms into open plan kitchen/ diner. Unfortunately the ceiling came down when the wall was taken out so additional work required to rebuild and plaster. When renovating always expect the unexpected! Although it cost several extra days in labour to make good, there was a saving in electricians time as he didn't have to scrabble around in the roof void to fit the new wiring! Ceiling and all walls in new room have been plastered and kitchen units fitted. Really pleased with the Dove Grey Shaker units with copper handles from Howdens. Had the cupboard handles fitted horizontally so they can line up with the handle on the integrated dishwasher (still to be installed) as well as the drawer handles. Dithered about a gas hob as I think people prefer (?) but went for an induction hob in the end as sits level with the worktop also thought safer as hob had to be sited into the breakfast bar. A lovely wooden beam (over hob) had been boxed in so we have pulled off the old plaster- it will be sanded down eventually. Next job; stripping out the old kitchen at the front of the house......

I'm assuming your house is identical to your neighbours so it should be achievable ? You also need to think about fire safety so have copied a link. Listed building consent may well be delayed or turned down if you're needing to tank the basement. I'd get a builder round with knowledge of old buildings.
