Any idea what this plant is that has sprouted all over my lawn?
Comments (11)This thread is worth bumping. There was a big fad in the (I believe) 1980s for Rhus typhinia, common name Stag's Horn Sumac. It is a sub-species of the Sumac genre. The leaf shown between the teeth in the photo almost certainly is one. "The weed of the prairies" as it is known in North America. As trees go, this one is short-lived and as they begin to die they do indeed throw off runners which will pop up as saplings in seemingly random spots at some distance from the, by now sick, parent plant. Usually it is not so much a matter of lack of cooperation but lack of understanding and a failure to grasp how this method of propagation works in plant life. Hence the unwelcome proliferation of bamboo, Japanese knotweed and some other invasive species well beyond the boundaries of their initially proud owners. Their common theme is that they all propagate in this manner. Buyers knew they would need space enough for a tree when they bought Rhus so there are hopefully not so many to cause as much trouble. Having said that, in two of my own clients' gardens I have one still looking healthy and one that is all but dead and sprouting nascent offspring. So beware. If your or your neighbour's tree's leaves are that shape, they turned various rather beautiful shades of red, yellow and brown last autumn, the branches are evocative of stags' horns and the tree has reached its maximum height of around 5 metres, it may be worth inspecting the area below ground immediately around its roots. Try and cut them out before they really get going....See MoreFitting all my requirements into a single side extension! Help!
Comments (20)Hello Jodie, Most welcome, I hope you saw my extension visuals too which give you a range of ideas and I like the transparency and style of the frames which lend to a feeling of open space.... The day beds are really gr8 in a room where it needs to be versatile so gr8 minds!.. The cream daybed is from ikea.. if you mean the second whiteish one with bolsters.. Something similar can be found at Loaf.. I do really like the Ikea one though as it's woven which is very nice texturally and has a really good aesthetic. and the last one which is my other favourite.. .. I think it would be rather good to have a shower element and so if not the wet room idea, you can still have something fantastic as a shower enclosure if you choose the enclosure wisely. Also you may be able to incorporate the architecture of the space in that you may be able to add a screen or something if the size fits for a walk in or other enclosed shower with single screen.. With regard to the extension you have.. you may be able to adapt it architecturally but if you like the idea of more glass then it might be better to replace altogether but of course dependent on what you choose and decide on an architectural level with the plans etc.. Budget a consideration etc.. You could though take out the existing windows and replace them with doors or bifold or sliding panels.. The arches internally are quite easy to convert to a squared off finish ie where they are situated such as the windows and doorways.. : ))...See MoreReally want to get the most out of my new build layout
Comments (3)Hi Mr Walsh, It looks like you have already started putting a lot of work and thought into your property which is great. Do you have a interior designer or Architect on board to help? I would be happy to go through a few ideas with you on the design side if you to wanted to get in touch at gina.everett@createperfect.co.uk. There are lots of options open to us here and it would be a case of getting to know a bit more about what is important to you and what you desire from your home in order to get to it right. What do you want to see when you pull up to your drive? What type of windows do you like? Everything is linked in a project to ensure the property and design flows between spaces and creates a property that is tailored to you. I wish you the best of luck on this exciting project and hope to hear from you. Thank you, Gina...See MoreAre 2 drawer pulls ok ? Please check my pic
Comments (17)Thanks Isidora. It's the discussion of the finer details which helps actually ! I think , having looked again in person, that the one larger D cup actually looks fine against the round knob...perhaps it is the 2 together which make the knob look a bit lost, as the eye sees so much metal on top then this small knob below. My partner also prefers the fancier D cup so I'm going to just fill the holes. You can only barely make out where the holes were on the big doors - you have to get up real close and scrutinize it, so I think my filling and sanding skills are actually pretty good. I was just trying to avoid more labour as the whole painting-the-cupboards was a bloody nightmare (I did them grey, didn't like it, so had to go around with white 3 times !) Thanks everyone for the input, it has helped me to clarify things....See More- 9 years ago
