Vertical or horizontal radiator?
Hi Houzzers,
I've just had an extension built and can't decide whether to go for a vertical radiator (https://www.cityplumbing.co.uk/QRL-Aria-Vertical-Double-Panel-1800-X-505-mm-QV2012W/p/728691 or similar) to allow wall space for some other furniture if we want, or horizontal radiator to impact less visually and allow space higher on the wall for picture or mirror.
The wall in question is on the left as you enter the room (see photo)
What do you think?

I should have said... the extension room leads from the kitchen and will either house dining room or living space. We will put storage on the far wall, bifold doors on front, and the back wall (attached to house) is likely to be where we have seating, either for dining or lounging. So the left wall is the only practical place to put a radiator where is won't get in the way. I agree it's not ideal to have the radiator as the first thing you see, which is why I was thinking of making it a non-standard type e.g. vertical, but I'm not sure which will be more practical and least unattractive.

Comments (11)My skirting and architraves are an F&B colour called "clunch". The floors are stripped Victorian planks, and hallway walls are a combination of stripped brick and F&B "pointing". One column rad is mounted on the brick, one on a painted wall. I had the same question as you, and went for a bare metal lacquered finish, and polished the copper pipework from the floor. It looks great and is a bit different! The radiators are from Revive Radiators, by the way, and they come in white and grey too. Also by going for the bare metal lacquered finish it means you should have no trouble matching to it in the future, if and when you decide to redecorate. Comments (8)Thank you both for your comments and ideas. I had never seen these radiators combined with a bench before! While the front door is currently the main area of foot traffic, I hope to soon have a back door into the kitchen which will take most of the coming and going. So am not sure if a bench will be necessary then. I want to avoid furniture by using a wall mounted shelf, but have also been toying with the idea of filling one of the panels with a tall mirror....See MoreRadiator help! Comments (2)I had a vertical radiator installed behind my sofa, to replace 2 smaller horizontal radiators. The back of my sofa is 33cm from the wall, so it doesn't block the radiator. Better for heating the room, rather than the sofa....See More- 9 years ago
