POLL: Exposed brick - yay or nay?
Comments (32)I agree with Rennew Traditional Building Materials - it's not a question of what's 'trending' or 'passé', but of really paying attention to the existing building and marrying that with the sensibility of the future inhabitant. Some spaces suit the industrial treatment, some don't, and no-one should be forced to be fashionable. I can't help thinking of the old Bauhaus principle of 'truth to materials' though. If you find yourself faking an 'authentically exposed' surface, then something isn't quite clicking in your analysis of what's in front of your nose. Not that I wasn't once taken in by an entirely ersatz 'industrial' café in Paris once, which was not, as I'd supposed, a converted butchers! Comments (13)I love exposed brick - here it is in my London flat, which is part of an 1870's semi detached house. Comments (10)Such a lovely room. I wouldn’t do much. I’d be wary about exposing the brick as you don’t know what colour bricks are under there or how well laid they are. You could try brick slips which are the same size as normal bricks but not as thick. Or brick wallpaper, although that can look a bit fake. As it’s a dining room I would add a bigger table and more chairs. The bench just clutters the room. Could it go elsewhere? Maybe the wall with the radiator if it will fit? Warmer colours you could try are Egyptian Cotton by Dulux or any of the F&B taupe neutrals....See More- 9 years ago
