Thanks Minnie. It’s a 1950s house & all of the current casement windows have 3 panes. One window company said the 2.1m & 2.3 windows should have 4 panes & the 1.5m windows 3 panes (because 600mm is the widest window you can have for flush) but the other window company have said we can have whatever size we want. We’ve gone back to check. The local houses I have seen with flush windows all seem to have smaller panes which in our case if we followed suit would mean 3 & 4 for our windows. Aaarrrrgh. Time for coffee :)

Gillian, permitted development is work you are allowed to carry out without seeking planning permission. Things like sheds and outbuildings. There are strict criteria that must be adhered to. Some of the criteria in 2016 when we had a garage built in the back garden was 1. The building must not cover more than 50% of the garden, and 2. the building must not be higher than 2.5m at the highest point. If you go to your local councils Planning Portal page it will list the full criteria. If you think you’re neighbour is going beyond the criteria (14’ high!) then you should contact your local Planning Offices and tell them.

Hi Sonia! I’m hoping to be able to get one through a door and window company as you say. The door I ordered was from a door company who sent out a surveyor to measure up the space and get the sizing right. But he said that they don’t make doors wide enough for what I want (even though I checked this with their customer services multi times!). He also said that even with their widest door we wouldn’t be able to also fit a side-panel. Sorry for the brain-dump! It’s all very frustrating since the whole point of the renovation is to make our bungalow accessible. Elki.

ED - I completely agree, but sadly there’s another sofa on the side wall, so it’s a bit limited. Ideally I want a new sofa that’s not quite as heavy looking (lusting after all the lovely velvets around at the mo), but the leather one is super comfy and generally absolutely nothing wrong with it - it’s pretty much billet proof and I can’t justify it at all!!! I’m trying really hard to reduce my impact on the world, and buying stuff that we just don’t need is hard to justify! (Please note that the plan for the existing curtains is to reuse them elsewhere!).
