Comments (16)Thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions so far. Just to re-iterate what can't be changed, the light fixture is staying as is the wall paint as hubby likes them and at the moment it seems to us an unecessary expense ( we intend on doing up the house again in 6-7 years' time once kids are bit older and less destructive ;) ) The fridge freeze can not be shifted to the other side of the door as there isn't a plus socket there for power, the suitcases there are temporary as I was spring cleaning and just need to be shifted back into the garage. Fayzd, I will look into the glam paper as that sounds interesting, but isn't ordering off Etsy going to be a bit of a pain as it comes from US and customs often create a hassle of actually getting it? I've had a bad experience from there before hence wondering if I could get it from UK instead... Ivy Ngeow, I would probably stick the glitzy wallpaper on a single wall rather than all over as that might be a bit too much? Or if you could kindly suggest specific examples so I could see what you had in mind? Thank AJ for the wishes and your ideas :) yes the wall paint is staying, the wooden door opens into the kitchen and is always open, again I don't think we will be spending on painting them nor the cupboard so really all I'm looking for is ideas like adding something to the walls maybe like few shelves and putting some deco items up there, the place where the cases are I was thinking of having a stylish wooden and glass cupboard to display fancy dining sets/ glasses etc. I will defo be getting a vase arrangement for the table but just havnt seen something I like enough that isnt too pricey either :) I really like the sage chairs but hubby isnt a fan of them unfortunately... I ADORE the tufted chair styles like in the pic below, wanted to know if theres something that might work for us and will be easy to maintain too? Minnie, would the decorative screen come in front of the fridge n freezer? Im confused how it will work as wont it disrupt access to the FF? Thanks again everyone for your help, its much appreciated!...See MoreLiving/dining decor advice needed please
Comments (4)Because the sofas are big heavy and dark I agree that you need to lighten up this room. I wouldn't have additional furniture because I think it looks full already but I might swap your little table lamp for a standard lamp to you have a light that is the same height as the TV. I also think your mirror is undersized, it should hang portrait to make the room seem taller - a round mirror would also work. I would get a white dining table. The mahogany trunk seems to obscure the view of the fireplace- perhaps a lower table should be better. I would also get an oversized houseplant. I don't mind the fireplace. I think you can put any colour on the walls and I don't think it has to be neutral but you should replace the curtains with much paler-perhaps even white. I think one of the reasons for replacing the curtains is the now slightly dated pattern. Perhaps put pattern in art or cushions so it can be changed more regularly. I like the rug but it does dictate your decorating choices- could it go in another room? If it can I think that your instinct is right that a large pale textured rug would be comfy and visually break up the dark tones of the sofas and floor. Lastly I would add a throw and a couple of cushions to make the sofas less imposing, add pattern and break up their darkness....See MoreAdvice needed re. decorating small lounge connected to dining room
Comments (12)hi Carolina, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me and love your ideas. I should have added more detail but you managed to visualize the layout quite closely. Actually, no door in dining area , only access thru sitting room. Love the area rug and have Macys one which will work perfectly - might pull a greyish -blue color from rug for walls maybe similar to the example you provided. Also have two mid-century style floor lamps which I can use. I really like the idea of a mural as the Wow - only concern is that radiator is on that wall. Do you think I could work around that somehow? Shelving will work perfectly - I was thinking something from Ikea or JLewis. Agree that blind is better and like curtains on patio door side. I am really hooked on the mural suggestion . Thanks and I will post a updated photo to show you the final result when we get everything done -hopefully by Dec. -especially now that I have something to show 'the main man'. I am really excited about getting this going!!!Regards eithne...See Moreneed help with decorating our living / dining room
Comments (24)Hello. I was studying your space, and I came up with some ideas. If you are open to them, here they are: 1.Get a brushed cotton sofa with legs at least 8cm; it gives some airiness to a room, making it look more spacious. 2.When choosing a table, allow the minimum distance between the edge of your table and a wall to be 90cm. This is for people to get in and out of their chairs comfortably. In addition, purchase armless dining chairs, which will give you a clean look for your dining space. 3.You asked what to do with a wall with a small window; I suggest having sheers and curtains across the whole wall. It will soften the place and will make a room feel larger. 4.You have little spotlights on the walls, which are excellent for creating a different mood in the evening. They can be nicely framed using decorative moulding. It will elevate your space. 5.If you like a moulding wall design, you can have picture frame moulding. You can even use wallpaper inside those frames. It is a relatively inexpensive way to luxe up your space. 6.Your ceiling has an orange undertone; to tone down that orange, go for cooler undertones in your curtains and upholstery. Here I mean whatever colour you choose, grey for your sofa and a lighter colour for your curtains, look for cool undertones when choosing them. Cool undertones are blues, purples, and greens. When selecting a grey sofa, try to identify the undertone. Does this grey colour have blue, green or purple? 7. I also made a quick visualisation of your space. Please note that this only suggests the layout and the room's look. The furniture is only for guidance, and no advice is provided for the colour palette. The measurements of the room are used for illustration only. I hope it was helpful and now you can envisage your space much better....See More- 8 years ago
