Kitchens are a big expense - especially the chairs so I would match them to the units - the set you showed matches the colours of the chairs with the units really well, BUT, 1. The pine top doesn't work and 2. You need to add a bit of pzaz to this space. You can paint or cover the pine top with whatever colours / textures you choose as accents then follow these colours through into the pictures and the odd accessory (but don't go mad and keep most of the kitchen utensils and tools in the same colour as the background so they 'disappear' - only use subtle accent colours on gorgeous items so they stand out). First of all the Kitchen fit out looks beautiful, very sleek! I would certainly go down the route of New Nordic or contemporary. I can also thoroughly recommend getting a nice sized table that will work without the need for extensions. Having an extending table throws up the question of where do you keep the extra seats, or if they are fold up, where do I get good quality fold up chairs that are comfortable for guests? I would look at getting a pair of the radius benches from Habitat to go in the back corner, or look at getting a banquette made up. Benches mean you can squeeze in an extra guest or two! a small T12 table from Hay and a few of the Hiroshima chairs by Naoto Fukasawa I think these sleek but warms designs will complement the wood already in the room, but not fuddle the sleek look of the kitchen by adding lots of extra details.

Hi Charlotte - I like the Eames chairs suggested above and, as classic furniture, they won't date; I think the image supplied by Ana really sets the scene well. If you want to consider other classic chairs, there is the Series 7 by Jacobsen which comes in a multitude of colours - we supplied those below in this neutral scheme but paler coloured / white chairs would suit your proposed decor. Carl Hansen Wishbone Chairs are also timeless, and worth a look; they come in fewer colours, but are very stylish.For a softer feel, fabric chairs might also work for you - again with some colour. As for putting a rug beneath, I've seen a multitude of photos with this feature, which look fine in the photo, but I've never considered the idea practical; I would be concerned about rucking the edges with the chair legs and the area beneath the table can get quite dirty with crumbs. I think you will break up the wood-on-wood look with more interesting chairs, so personally I would avoid a rug. Hope this helps. Nick

Why don't you go for that look which also gives a modern feel with the chairs ? This is the canton table and wishbone chair from Lombok. They're on offer ATM, the chairs are out of stock but If you like them I would try ringing and pre-ordering if the website doesn't allow you to. I've got the chairs myself, I bought them whilst on offer and the day they were due to be delivered they brought out another offer which made them cheaper which they honoured after a frantic phone call! If jot by a brown table do do you mean wood with brown tones? You've got some grey tones in the floor so I think grey chairs could work
