In defense of my plan it is all about find a way to have stairs that rise all the way to the attic level and creating a slightly larger footprint so that there is enough space to justify extending upwards in the future while giving you 5 bedrooms now. The stairwell has a planned new window so would have light. The proposed plan to put a room on stilts above the garage sounds like you will be paying for engineering that could be spent adding square footage instead if you build out in another direction. In any case the garage is smaller than your current main bedroom and ensuite so seems like a master suite here would be a backwards step and you certainly wouldn't create a 5th bedroom in this space. I also think that my suggestion can be done in stages with the removal of the wall between the kitchen and dining room and the extension above now. When you have done this and bought a new kitchen and redecorated you will have used a lot of your current budget and will have a lovely four bedroomed house although it could be made into five by splitting the space across two of the biggest bedrooms to make three

Hi I think you've managed to squeeze a lot but I think you'll regret no shower in the ensuite so you might want to rework that layout. What about moving the bedroom 1 door along the corridor taking a little bit from the bedroom for the bathroom and allowing you to push a shower-sized space into where the bath currently is. This would also give you a perfect bookcase space where the current bed1 door is in the corridor. One option for the utility could be moving the airing cupboard to the whole internal wall space on the right and doubling the storage space and put another door (keeping 2 doors) into the corridor, the practicality of walking through a narrow utility room to get to the cupboard may be irritating, but you'd still have access from the washing machine/dryer, and you would be keeping a reasonable sized WC, but is access to that WC for guests who would be walking through your utility space? A 2nd option is put the WC on the corridor wall leaving its door where is it now and using the reclaimed space for a/c and storage. I would also change some doors to pockets doors, ie: kitchen to utility, airing cupboard, ensuite, office, all doors to living room/kitchen and also the WC but there's privacy issue with that. And because I love open plan living I would change that wall between the lounge to kitchen to as large as possible full height pocket door(s) sliding from the middle outwards so you could have one big open(ish) space when needed (which is want you want) or closed off.
