triangular window......blind needed

we have just decorated our bedroom but feel the blind is too clinical. we have a lovely view but as you can see the blind blocks lots of light. want something blackout and with ability to open triangular section. help

Hi Mary,

What about shutters? Shutters can be made to fit unusual shaped windows like these, and although they don't offer a total blackout, they are really good at blocking the light.

Hello rejster, You might think about two paths here... either three blackout shades, one in the center with two on either side, or, if you can manage it, hang a single blackout shade above the bay opening to come down to the top of the cabinets. This may leave a little flash of light to either side (which might drive you crazy ) but it's a thought. You could, really, do that with drapery as well which would delete the clutter. Smith and Noble has several great options for shades and blackout shades and are all customizable. You can find them online. Hi Sarah, I think you have two main options: Most Expensive Option: I would propose to rebuild the soffit, so that the same distance at the front, follows on the sides. This will need re-plastering and some 12-18mm ply under the plasterboard, so that there is something to fix the new blinds to. I think this would be the prettiest option and then it will free you up to do whatever you want there. (If you were to do this, I would also add some insulation into the void, as the crumbling paint looks like you have a cold bridge). Cheapest Option: Find blinds that you can fix directly to the window. Try to find ones that are glued on rather than hard fixed to the window as you don't want to damage the windows. Hiya, As others have suggested, a Roller blind with a blackout fabric would be great. You mention you struggle with space in your bedroom, and Roller blinds are really great at rolling up neatly, letting in as much light as possible during the day. And of course, you'll be able to pick a colour or pattern that enhances your design scheme, so your blind will become part of the overall look. A Roman blind is still an option available to you, but be aware if you fit it within the recess it will take up more room than a Roller blind when at the top of the window. I agree with Bespoke Interiors Redbridge UK, definitely put in full height fences, not trees. If the neighbours are problematic (sounds like they're related to mine), the fences will be a safer option than trees that shed leaves/fruit which they might take issue with. Fences also take up less room in a small garden. My garden is only 3m wide, and I have full height fences on both sides. You can paint them or whitewash them if light is an issue, though I have left mine to silver naturally (I just like the look). Get the kids involved in gardening and put raised beds in front of the fences: I am training berry plants up the fences, so they will be green and leafy once the (currently 18 inch tall) plants grow in. Sunflowers are also great to grow along fences and there are plenty of climbing or tall edible plants like sweet peas, maize and tomatoes that are easy for kids to look after (and snack on!). Be careful of getting any evergreen hedges. I have a school one side and have had to ask them to really cut back their leylandii hedge, which has been horribly neglected for years, and it's now getting close to 3.5m tall (guidelines say no more than 2m). It's expensive to cut them back if they have been neglected, so you may be setting yourself up for a big bill down the line.
