And also - bringing the window dressings up towards the ceiling is a great call. It adds even more height to the room and depth to the ceiling, definitely recommend doing that!

Your room is lovely, how about a set of beautiful roman blinds for the side windows and dramatic floor length curtains for the main window. I agree that hanging the curtains much higher will make the room feel bigger. Elegant pelmets would also look lovely and would tie the look of all windows together. Pendant lighting over the table as you suggest will look great. Some artwork or mirrors on the wall would look lovely too.

Hi Nicki. What colours and styles do you like as you haven’t got any idea books set up? Would you consider adding a decorative screen to hide the wine fridge? (Not sure what I’m putting into the search key but am not getting decorative ones come up!). Which way does the room face in terms of choosing a paint colour?

The room faces southwest so gets a reasonable amount of light by day. The grass lawn is just outside so some green cones in.
The wine fridge is a pain, it looks great with the light on but ugly when you look at the sides. We could consider moving it out into the lounge maybe....

I like modern contemporary styles. I don’t like floral on fabrics, artwork or wallpaper. Really not a fan or purple or oranges. I don’t like the glamorous bling look either. Do love those cluster bubble pendant lights but not sure if they will work in that room?

Nice room. To start with I would replace curtains with Roman blind fixed high up under the cornice. That room needs a large rug under the table and a large pendant light but not just boring one . Something different. The wine fridge could be relocated it really doesn’t look good there. For Wall colour I would choose something darker then what you have at the moment. Maybe pick a colour from the rug , you could get a large round mirror and position it to face the table.

If you can't move the wine fridge to the kitchen or a utility, maybe you can 'box it in'.

If the room is too narrow for a sideboard, you could mount kitchen upper cabinets (ikea) on the wall and put a top on them, like in the pics below. I would do that next to the wine fridge. It will give you space for plates, glasses and for displaying some nice things and also a table lamp (or two) on top.

I would add a flatweave or low pile rug under the table that is large enough to allow the chairs to be pulled out while staying on the rug. If it's difficult to find the right size, you can have a piece of carpet bound. That can probably be done for a very reasonable price.

What would you think of painting the walls a dark colour?

You definitely can go with dark walls if you get a lot of day light.

Personally I really liked the yellow suggestion. The pro said she’s getting more people asking about yellow and I’ve got a gut feeling yellow might be coming in. I know it doesn’t matter if something is “in” but it does mean better items are available to buy. Plus it’s actually a classic anyway. Since it’s south west and you may get glare I wouldn’t go with Roman blinds since they’re either fully closed or open, where as other blinds better control the light levels. And if you place a rug in a room where there’s not much space to walk around the table and chairs I think it becomes a trip hazard??
I do think a beautiful or unusual light above table would be particularly significant in this room. And I’d also like to see some hanging plants in the far corners in front of the curtains. Hanging means they will be off the floor so cleaner lines on the floor but good added interest up high.
Also, I get what you like about the fridge light looking good at night, it just could do with the sides disguising somehow, and a folding screen beside it positioned carefully might do it? And another hanging plant?

Another idea would be to build a bench seating across the entire window wall and have shutters fitted. Actually you can buy nice dining benches now. And shutters would allow great light control. Just a thought!
