Hello. How about keeping the part of the kitchen that looks over the back garden as a utility room? Then use a combination of the rest of the kitchen, dining room and a squared of sun room to become the new kitchen/ diner. The sun room name gives me the clue that this may well be the best spot in the house so this should be part of where you spend most of your time, the new kitchen. The front door stays where it is but is made more of a feature with a nice porch. Having a kitchen diner that goes from the front to the back of the house (ie with utility room) takes away having to turn the house around. Your other reception rooms will seem small by comparison but you really will spend the majority of your time in this new space.

The advantage of the hemnes day bed is it can convert to a double so could last until adulthood in theory. Would you/he consider a midsleeper? There are loads on Wayfair (with good reviews). Or if you have space how about getting him a double bed? https://www.notonthehighstreet.com/cuckooland/product/four-poster-king-bed-with-storage-and-shelves-in-white?istCompanyId=aa76f5e6-d733-4e56-8409-574cea196cc9&istItemId=xmxqqlqmlp&istBid=t&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsNL0_MvS2AIVBbftCh3chQwaEAkYDCABEgKgj_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CLHk74LM0tgCFcaxUQodgwICeQ http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/beds/double-king-size-beds/brimnes-bed-frame-w-storage-and-headboard-white-lur%C3%B6y-spr-59124616/

Hi, It would be really useful to know which walls you can knock down and feel are awkward? In terms of utilising the space better are you open to considering moving the kitchen into the reception room to create an open plan kitchen living space? The reason I suggest is because adding a second bedroom will reduce the space of the bedroom as you will need to add a corridor. In addition what you have asked for in the bathroom will increase the footprint of the area. I would have suggested a bath tub/shower combined to save on space. As you want a separate bath and shower units this will take up more space, which can be done but you would have to extend the bathroom which is why I suggest moving the kitchen over to your reception room. It is really difficult to advise you in terms of costs as this is subjective to your building, structural considerations and the builder you use. I do believe you honestly need to get a professional architect involved who will carry out a survey and can advise exactly what can and can't be done in the space you have. Yes this will cost a bit of money, but you will get accurate answers than the Houzz forum! Knocking down walls and moving things around is a costly expense no matter how big the project. I always advise my clients to add 10% contingency fund just incase for those unexpected expenses :) Hope that helps Rukmini Patel Interior Design

If you intend to watch the TV in bed then you need 2 flat adequate wall areas, therefore l would consider placing the bed headboard on the outside wall and the TV opposite it. If you put the bed with the headboard onto the adjoining dressing room wall then you might be stuck for a TV wall placement on the window wall.
