I have to agree with Crafty Countess about having a vinyl flooring. I would recommend Loose Lay by Karndean. The range comes in wood plank and stone tile effects, does not have to be glued down except around the edges of the room and damaged "tiles" can be easily replaced. They are made for commercial use, so are very durable and will retain their looks for years to come. From our own tenants, I've found that white or off- white works best. You'll never get a colour right for a tenant. In the past, we've hung curtains, which our tenants always ask to take down and put up their own. We've painted lightly fresh or richly cozy feature walls, which our tenants have asked to paint over. So we always use a neutral paint now. We allow our tenants to hang pictures, providing they repair and paint the holes when they move out and use wall stickups that they can take with them. The less colour you put in, the more you allow your tenants to make the space their own.

Have you not chosen the kitchen then? Much as I like your picture I don’t think you should use it entirely as inspiration for the colour of your kitchen units. Choose a kitchen you love, then add wall colour, art, plants etc afterwards. Or have I misunderstood? A safe option is a white or pale grey kitchen, or even wood Scandi finish which is becoming very popular again. Then possibly a pale duck egg on the walls to tie in with your picture.

I think the teal is too bright for the room but appreciate that you would like to add some colour. A pale greeny grey would blend with the grey but add softness. What colour accessories are you planning to add? Farrow and Ball has some lovely shaded whites. Shadow White or one in that line of shaded whites. I always prefer colour added with towels and accesories like baskets as it's easy to change. I think you might do better with a warmer colour like Dimity or Setting Plaster (F&B) rather than a cold blue. A plant or two always looks great with grey.

I would go for the lightest paint colour after white, one of the neutrals that you have already painted on the wall. I would be very careful with dark colours in a small space. I once painted our cloakroom black and it just didn't work. It faced west. Which way does your window face?
