I would suggest looming at them in person as this is the biggest difference. Wood is more.

Wood Ultrex is higher but given the thousand variables of each job, you should get proposals from 2 or 3 contractors to see what is the difference for your job.

I agree with Todd's post above - find a showroom where you can look at these and see for yourself abiut the grids, etc. The Marvin website can provide locations near you. Call in advance any of the places to make sure they have on display what you want to see.

An hour in a showroom might save you days on the interwebs & years of grief.

If you’re getting casements or awnings, the all-ultrex are fine. If you wanting single, double hungs or sliders, they are quite flimsy and poorly designed.

Thank you all for the comments. I have been to a Marvin showroom and looked at both styles. Our house is new construction and has a mix of double hung and casement windows. The house is on a lake in Georgia, the rep I talked to felt like the all Ultrex would be a good fit with the humidity here, but I just got his quote and he used the wood-Ultrex. Maybe after seeing our house plans, he felt moving up to the wood-Ultrex was a better fit. I plan to talk to him tomorrow, but was just curious about the difference in price. Thank you all for the help.

Britta - may i ask which GA lake you're on? We're at Lake Rabun and will be rebuilding here soon. I really dread the window decisions....and the stone....and the countertops....and the ....LOL. It's exciting but stressful too!

Thanks Wow. Britta I felt exactly the same as you when I first looked at Integrity. The Integrity with wood had “thinner” lines and looked significantly better than the all Ultrex model. They are pretty different as far as looks go. I considered mixing the two lines to save money where the windows were not so prominent (if I recall correctply the all Unltrex was 10% to 15% less). I did not do this and I am glad I didn’t. A couple of the Pro’s on this board really dislike the look of the all Ultrex going so far as to calling it ugly.

Big difference on the muntins: wood ultrex has SDL and all ultrex offers only GBG (or grilles between the glass). Price wise: all ultrex is less than wood ultrex but only 5-8% on average and no hinged doors on all ultrex.

Big thanks to you all- I believe I have my answer. If I am understanding you all, well worth the extra $ to go with the wood-Ultrex. The SDL is very important to me, I just like that look so much more than the grilles between the glass. Maybe I will sleep tonight and not think about window options anymore-thank you all!

love2cavies- Lake Rabun is so beautiful- all of these decisions make my head spin. I think if I can get through windows, doors, and floors I will be ok! We are right outside of Madison, GA. Britta, Progressive Lighting pretty much owns our area. I’ve been pretty happy with them and their selection but you really need to go to their place constantly to get good deals, if not you’ll pay too much. The main chandelier in our great room is a good example. This light is a lot bigger than it looks, it weighs over 100 lbs. list price -$6000. “Normal” Progressive price - $4000. We paid $1200 and a $100 crating fee (we had to return the crate). It was one of their main display lights and we happened to catch it as they rotated lights in the showroom.

Same with this foyer chandelier and the following lights. We averaged about paying about 10% to 20% of list (80% to 90% off list). This was over a 8 to 10 month period. If there is a Progressive near you, start shopping now. LOL. I would NOT buy any LED specific fixtures. A lightening strike or electrical surge can kill them. Get standard fixtures and put LED lights in them. That way if you have an issue with the electonics used in the LED lights, you fix it by replacing the bulb, not the entire fixture.

I used the one on 400 just north of Cumming (just past 369), although I had to go to the one in Alpharetta and I think my wife went to Norcross to get enough matching out door fixtures (I needed 6, they were sale, each store only had a couple since they were on clearance). They all have the same things. I would also shop on line, a lot, to get lighting ideas. Other than paint colors, I think it’s the only thing my wife and I argued about during the build. I was really serious about the heated bathroom floors.
