Feature wall - with a window in it?
Comments (24)I think that people mostly wallpaper all their walls, or, just one feature wall (usually the one you face when sitting) I was looking at the thread of emails and Moniker sent 2 pictures right at the beginning that I think look fab. A few subtle changes in your room that would make a big difference are getting bigger bedside lamps and getting a large statement piece of art or perhaps even a large mirror instead (which would make the space look lighter and brighter too) I'm not sure what your budget is but changing the carpet to a neutral cream or taupe would also help tie the room together. I'd personally dress the window with a simple Roman blind or roller blind a bit bigger than the window as having curtains behind the bed may be a tad difficult to manage? However, if you are in love with the idea of wallpaper, you could always paper three walls first, and based on how you think it looks, either leave it at that or continue with the forth wall....See MoreSmall bedroom sloped ceiling dilemma
Comments (17)Sometimes, especially with smaller rooms it's better to show more floor space. Don't over crowd the room. I would personally put a single bed under it going in the same direction with the foot under the lowest point of the eaves to give an even better illusion of space. You or the estate agent showing new buyers round can point out that a double bed easily fits still! Add a bedside table, storage such as a small wardrobe is best to show off instead of bed size. In fact, house builders quite often buy small furniture to put in the show houses that make the rooms look larger! I agree it's a small double, but it's a really big single! So make it look as spacious as possible! You can also combine the bed and storage buy putting a cabin bed under the eaves!...See Moretotally confused by ceiling extractors!
Comments (17)Hello Heather, I think you are right in having these discussions with your builder right now, has the project already started? Unfortunately, I left my serious/ detailed discussion on ducting to the last minute because the builder said all along, he can duct out easily but we didn't discuss the exact details, now I can't duct out where I want and it's causing me a real headache ( as it might lead to more boxing in, in addition to my existing boxing in - you replied to my post earlier on 'Ugly boxing in of steels' ). My hob is on a wall and the plan was to duct out through the joist and out of extension roof but my pipe is 2.6m until we get to the extension. We had to have 2 extra joists put in for support of the above floor which now means we can't have a 6inch duct pipe because the joists are in the way, so we are thinking of alternatives but I have a feeling that I might have to duct under the ceiling and box box box and then get around the steel beam.....argh! My only advice is that whatever ducting you plan to have, make sure the builder can definitely deliver what he says he can, go through with him the exact details of how he will do it, otherwise when the time comes, he might turn around and say, sorry we can't do it now. Or even have a plan B. My kitchen company also recommended that you switch the hood on for a bit before you cook and for a while after as well....See Moreflat or half sloping ceiling on extension?
Comments (15)The problem - if we end up with this stupid large nib by the alcove is that it kind of dictates the edge of the living room unless we do something clever with it ie build off a bookcase or drinks unit to the left of it to visually extend the lounge) and then run the roof from that. I’ve taken some pics as it is now because you can see visually how much it slopes on the blockwork as it’s not yet boarded. So we could run it flat to just before the rooflight and then slope it down which will visually make the lounge area look wider than it is - or we do it from the nib....See More- 7 years ago
