Softwood requires maintenance, and if you do not have the time to keep it good looking, we recommend you go for composite decking, such as Millboard. We have also seen some amazing transformation with Millboard Composite Decking, as it requires very little maintenance, it has good slip-resistance, it doesn't age, and can be used in damp areas as well - such as pool surrounds. Hi, I have wooden decking and it does get very skippy when wet. I too am looking at replacing it. I’ve been looking at composite decking which is supposed to be non slip and virtually maintenance free, apart from cleaning now and then. There are many types, Deck Trek being one of them. My daughter has it around her holiday lodge and it looks very smart. Here’s a couple of pictures:

You could do that. Make sure the slate is below the level of the grass so that mowing will be easier.

Cuprinol Ducks Back lasts pretty well. I stained the slats of our driveway gate with 2 coats when it was installed in 2022 and only now does it need redoing. It faces west so gets a lot of afternoon and late evening sun. To save your knees do you use a roller and an extension pole? It really is the best way to do floors. You don't have to sand it either. Just powerwash, let it dry and then stain it. You could seal it with yacht varnish but its very drippy to use and I'm not sure a roller would cut it. Best of luck.
