Both Laminate and Vinyl are Graded using AC (Abrasation Class) Rating, is a measure of a floors resistance to abrasion, impact, stains etc.... The ratings also indicate that the product has been tested for the effects of furniture legs, castors, and swelling along its edges. AC 1 Residential, Moderate Traffic: Suitable for bedrooms or guest rooms AC 2 Residential, General Traffic: Suitable for living rooms or dining rooms AC 3 Residential, Heavy Traffic: Suitable for all areas AC 4 Commercial, Moderate Traffic: Hotel rooms, small office etc......... AC 5 Commercial, General Traffic: Office, boutique, café, stores etc...... All of our products start from AC3 and go to AC5. Do you have an idea of colours? Hello Paul, LVT in a south facing room with 5 metres worth of glazing won't cause a problem so long as you look for two things: We'd recommend going belts and braces and use a high temperature adhesive, like F Balls F48 - click here. You would normally use this in conjunction with underfloor heating and/or when in areas of huge temperature fluctuation like conservatories. We'd recommend going for one of the major LVT manufacturer brands, as they are more likely to have tested their products to be UV stable. This is what will help prevent fading in the sunlight. When you get serious with your supplier to make the purchase (and we would very much like to supply your materials, Paul), ask to see the technical data sheet for your product as you want to see for yourself that the product is UV stable. A manufacturer's data sheet should show you whether it is or is not UV stable. Major LVT brands to consider are: Amtico Karndean Natural Solutions Polyflor Best to stick to a major brand, in your circumstances, as the products will have been manufactured to high UK standards. The cheap and cheerful ones are produced, in volume, in China and do not have such stringent quality control tests carried out. Shrinkage? Doubtful. That "can" happen when using a click LVT but if you use a dryback LVT that must be adhered you won't experience shrinkage, Paul. We're cute, we're cuddly… we're the Flooring Gurus!

Thanks Minnie101. I have to say I'm coming round to that idea, too. I think I need a couple more sample tiles to place together and see the effect.

Ideally you will need to make all the different components the same height for the worktop. I would not be chopping the worktops into different lengths to cater for the different heights because each end will need edging glued to it to protect it from moisture to make the guarantee valid. If each component is a different height would you be able to make the legs vary thereby making the total height all round the same for the worktop? If you have a Belfast sink you will need a solid top (either quartz or solid timber) not laminate to fit it in.
