This thread was started by minnie101 in March and her comments at the end of May indicated she may have been by then well advanced in the planning if not the implementation. Doesn't that make suggestions for clearing and early stage design the following January somewhat posthumous? Changing topic to a piece orf growing advice for minnie101: we are now in a new year with a new growing season coming up. Instead of buying new lavendar plants to replace those which are getting leggy annd unkempt, why not look up how to take cuttings from those you have and replace with newly grown, free plants of your own? This will not only work with lavendar but with a huge variety of herbacious plants as well as most shrubs andd, if you have the patience to wait for the results, trees. You need some cheap plastic plant pots and some compost. A trowel would be useful. But you could even use an old spoon from the kitchen and a few empty yoghurt, margarine or other empty, washed packaging tubs with a couple of holes punched in the bottom for drainage. Here's an offer for all you Houzzer folk. If enough people would like to learn how getting free plants from your own cuttings works, I shall write an article for you and post it with a few pictures or drawings for clarity, here on the Houzz site if I can find out where to put it!

You may want to reconsider keeping curtains as well as the shutters, as they don't keep out all the light, particularly as you said the room is bright & south facing. Especially in the summertime when it gets lighter so much earlier. From someone who's been awake since 5am because of this problem! Note to self: must get round to choosing curtains! Also, F&B cornforth white is very pale. We've used it on the interior of our windows, but I think it would be a little boring if we used it on the walls, too close to white, especially in a room as bright as yours. A friend with very good taste recommended Little Greene's French Greys. It's a lovely warm grey & there are several different tones. Don't be scared of even the darkest one as even that isn't too strong on the walls! Our master bedroom used to be at the south facing front of a 30's house too, but after rebuilding we're now at the back of the house. Although I love looking out over the garden, I do miss that glorious sunshine you get! (Although not at 5 in the morning!). Have fun deciding, and remember you can always repaint if you really hate anything!

Hi Jo. Love your scheme I think it will look gorgeous! Personally I think a bit of real wood would look great against the blue and add a natural element (need to be a bit careful against the pink though!). I saw this pair of beauties in a charity shop, probably not quite right but I think it would be worth following your instincts and holding out for what you wanted rather than going for second best. Everyone is in such a hurry to have everything finished and perfect immediately but a house, style and furniture evolve over time, so if you can be patient and deal with clothes elsewhere for a bit you may get your dream cupboards! Thank-you for your comments thus far! Here is a photo showing more of the room. To be fair it needs a bit more thought and a lot of work doing to it! We will at some point installing some shelving in the alcoves. The cabinet doors were stripped ages ago but we've never gotten around to doing the rest. Thinking about changing the wall colour as well.
