Please help me make my hallway entrance appealing
Comments (30)Very much like my hall (almost identical except ours is 1922 and thus the detail is a tad more Edwardian in influence) ! I've added a wall light on the wall going up the stairs and matching pendants from Fritz Fryer and added a plain paper from Zoffany (called 'silk plain') . Thus the basic scheme is very plain and layered up with artefacts (tables, hall chair, paintings). I've added mirrors to throw light around the place..and am hunting for a distressed antique one to go right at the top of the stairs facing you. It looks as though your stairs go to left and right too... so adding the mirror will I think create more light and ambiance in that rather dark junction. I do agree that it would be lovely to have the stained glass replaced in the door. I added full door curtains with a upholstered pelmet over the door which makes it look much less stark (personally I don't think the little shelf at right adds anything and I'd remove it ;( ). . I chose an embroidered linen from Sanderson for the curtains and used the same fabric for the landing window and hooked that back with a French swan neck holdback and they were hung from a brass reeded Jim Lawrence curtain pole which goes very well with the Fritz Fryer lighting fitments. It's still work in progress as our beautiful carpet had to be removed due to allergy and we're still trying to get the best result on the oak floor in the hall. Be lovely to see what you do given your layout is so similar! :)...See MoreHelp needed with Hall flooring in converted flat
Comments (46)Hello Robin, No need to remove anything just add a huge mirror on the right hand wall with some height as I suggested earlier in the thread, then you will get a border reflected and also the arch! It is quite important to work with what you have, and you can cleverly with the oversized mirror! eBay have a shop for them! Once you paint frame to match the walls you will see how useful it could be. Possibly 8ft by 8ft as high as you can go to get the arch in! It's what I would do.. :))...See MoreCan you help me with this hallway to make hallway wider
Comments (7)Removing the console, changing the flooring and creating more interest on the walls, as mentioned above, would help. Also, creating a focal point at the end of the hall, perhaps by turning the bookcase around, or placing the lower cabinet there if it fits, with a painting above and a (faux) plant on top, using patterned wallpaper above the dado rail, perhaps panelling on the bottom part, and a row of mirrors on the long wall or a large mirror are all tricks to make it visually less narrow. https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/traditional-hallway-and-landing-traditional-hallway-and-landing-london-phvw-vp~12578864 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/townhouse-central-london-traditional-entrance-london-phvw-vp~67103968 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/malvern-east-transitional-hallway-and-landing-melbourne-phvw-vp~28664422 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/monee-ponds-victorian-federation-transitional-hallway-and-landing-melbourne-phvw-vp~49082224 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/entrance-transitional-entrance-chicago-phvw-vp~58742561...See MorePlease help me pick a colour for my hall, stairs & landing
Comments (15)Well what a coincident! Visited a friend yesterday who is having her hallway, stairs and landing painted on Monday and wanted my advice (!). She has chosen a Karndean style herringbone floor for her hall and a soft check stair carpet in a warm caramel colour. Staircase is oak and glass. Not much natural light in the hall. We looked through loads of paint charts but she didn’t want the expense of F&B or Little G. Then we both felt Dulux Caramel Latte or Caramel Blush would look good. She later bought some matchpots and loves both shades, so she’s having the Latte on one wall and the Blush on the rest. They are lovely warm tones with very appropriate names!...See MoreE D
