I don’t blame you. It also wasn’t installed properly. By far the easiest option is to cover this with peel and stick tile. The tile below is a simple cream subway tile peel and stick from Smart Tiles

So, what is your budget for this fix? Without a number it’s going to be tough to come up with ideas you can actually use.

You could also try getting a grout pen and coloring the light grout to match the tile -- then at least it would be a sort of uniform brown...

I agree ^^^^. Try a grout pen in the same color as the tile first. It will help the tile blend in and not stand out.

You can paint over glass so I'd just paint it. No different from painting shiny glazed ceramic tiles, which many people here have painted successfully.

Painting tiles is possible, painting grout is possible, both have their downsides, and neither looks great. I would recommend gluing a piece of laminate in place over the bs before choosing either of those options, but again, absent input from you, not much more we can do to help. Good luck.

I don't blame you for wanting to replace it. What is your budget? I honestly would rip it out and start over, unless you're planning a full remodel in the near future.

I think it was something that was put it by the original owners and totally wasn’t done by a professional.

500 on the budget, I would honestly just want something to get my eyes off of it. It darkens my whole kitchen and makes it look cavelike

Are you handy at all? We've done DIY backsplash and it's not difficult. You may have to replace some drywall if it's difficult to remove. You could get simple subway tile for way under your budget and then do the rest yourselves.

Yes for lightings we actually tried, we added a few recessed lights a few weeks back and here we are again

Take the tile off and repair drywall. Have it painted when you redo the walls and then you have all the time to determine what would work best. This would also save you having to touch up your new paint job when you do tackle the backsplash.

Honestly, this will look so much better with a simple cream subway tile - it'll brighten things up as well.

If you are willing to start from scratch it might be less expensive. It will also take time, a commodity I have very little of lately and we all value dearly. You would have to do the demolition (wear proper personal protective equipment because it's really easy to be injured removing glass tile), smooth out the wall behind the tile, lay the new tile, and grout. Depending on the size of the kitchen and the time you have to devote to this, you could be done in a week.

If you would prefer to be done in a day, consider the peel and stick tile.

How to decide between the two options? Consider whether you can find a peel and stick that you like better than what you've got. Starting from scratch you will have many more options. Also, consider whether this is your forever home. If so, it's probably worth the time investment. If not, peel and stick.

Aby recommendations on paint? I find everything to be organey and yellow. Wanted to brighten and tone it down

Cool. Well, the cabinets are orange and the counters are yellow, so changing the paint may not help a lot, but you can use a lighter shade, or a grayer/cooler one, like SW 7636 Origami White

Would changing hardware on the cabinets make much of a difference?

Yeah - when I look at that image, the hardware isn't what I want to change, but others will chime in too, and you can always decide to make that change at any time. The cabinets are pretty traditional, so no matter what change you make, you'll just end up with another version of pulls and knobs.
