How to deal with old lining paper: remove, repair & prime, or repaper?
Comments (5)Just found this. I am repainting my kitchen and have painted over quite a lot of what appeared to be old textured emulsion. But in the section I am doing now it has become clear that it's old, painted-over paper: this became apparent when I found some that was loose. I have removed the loose bits and I am not too bothered about the resulting unevenness as the whole wall is an uneven mixture anyway which gives a not unpleasing rustic look. My worry is that, while the paper that is left appears to be well stuck down, what came off did so with such ease that the remainder may be less secure than it appears. I have had problems over the years with several aspects of the house thanks to evident botches done by a previous owner: I fear this may be another. The top edge of the paper in your photographs looks very like the cut back edges of mine. Has yours remained sound since?...See MoreHas anyone removed an acrylic splash back Or painted one please?
Comments (5)I would imagine that is well and truly stuck on with something like silicon, gripfill, sticks like sh** etc, you say you have plasterboard, if its a modern house then its either dob and dab or studwork you might have to take the wall units down and cut the plasterboard away as well and then renew the platerboard and reskim. We sometimes had to do that even when removing wall tiles. Quicker and easier in the long run....See MoreRemoving pink paint from white tiles

Comments (1)I'd suggest using a wall primer like Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 or Polycell 3 in 1 Problem Wall Primer. I've used the latter on flakey walls and it worked well....See MoreEmma Meehan
