The best lighting for a vanity is with light fixtures at both sides of the mirror, rather than above. Sconces will work for that if they are bright enough - by "mood lighting" do you mean something on the dim side? You could install dimmer switches, or additional sconces on other walls, separately switched, if there is room.

Also think about the level of overall lighting for the room. Although you can't install a chandelier, or even a semi-flush ceiling fixture less than 8 feet above, or 3 feet away from, the tub rim, a recessed ceiling fixture would be allowed and might be a good idea even if you only need it for cleaning.

Will anyone else use this bathroom, and if so, what does that person want? I'm asking because, as a man who shaves with a blade and is quite nearsighted, I am often unhappy in hotel or guest bathrooms with inadequate light at the vanity.

Thank you for the comment! Yes, I think I will want to go with can lighting maybe in the perimeter of the room along with shower lighting and the sconces. I will be using dimmers too. I need to think about sconces on the other walls - that is a good idea! Great comments Paul!
