For a quick, easy and cheap facelift you'll be amazed how far a clean-up alone will go. Jet wash the wall and the driveway setts. Put a lick of paint on the ironwork, black would definitely be good. Brush in fresh kiln-dried sand between the setts. Prune back those sad looking shrubs before they get back into growth, which will be any time now. Don't cut back those firs, they will not grow back and are likely to just die. If you do anything at all with them, get rid and plant something which grows more happily in this country. It's a low definition photo so I can't see the state of the lawn or whether the wall needs re-pointing. Look yourself and treat accordingly. That alone will lift the place sufficiently to give you breathing space. Then you can think through what budget you have left and which of the many ideas available you prefer and can prioritise accordingly. On the other hand, whatever you do will not look good while all that looks scruffy and unloved.

I agree with Jonathan, you probably aren't going to get everything you want. My plan leaving the shower room and swapping the kitchen and bathroom is good. It leaves you a good sized bathroom for three beds, and a separate shower room. We all prefer our own plans and I like mine because i've used every inch possible. Plus, I only knocked down one small wall down between kitchen and living and put one wall up to make two bedrooms at the front. The master gets a nice big window with a private patio....nice feature. It also utilises the side entrance as a pantry gaining space in the kitchen. However, as Jonathan says either of the plans with no extension will leave an undersized living / kitchen / dining area. Thus an extension is necessary, but even that's pushing it. The budget just isn't going to stretch to all of the work in one go. I'm guessing you can just about do all the internals, which requires a new kitchen and bathroom, neither of which you could go mad on. Some of the rooms need better windows as you pointed out. It would still leave the undersized space at the rear, which would require an extension at some point, but the bulk of the work would be done. Either way, it's a very tight budget, it's an old house, and stuff crops up in those all the time that you don't expect. A healthy budget to achieve all, including the extension............with a contingency included for small disasters should be £60-80K

Firstly I'll apologise for the rough sketching below. Swop the kitchen with the big bedroom,  then your new living room opens on to the private garden.  Convert the kitchen &living room into 2 ensuite bedrooms.  3 bed, 2 of them a decent size. 3 bath.  The kitchen is moving near the plumbing for the bathroom. The new ensuites have water pipes already from the removed kitchen.   This should keep plumbing costs down. .  There will need to be re wiring costs for kitchen cooker and maybe extra electric sockets.  Then new kitchen and ensuites fittings. Probably will need tanks or electric showers for the ensuites.  This plan avoids knocking walls, plastering etc. And should be quicker than knocking everything down.   Gives decent size bedrooms/ retreats.  A family friendly open plan kitchen/dining/ sitting room opens on to the garden &  that will be very social, good for barbecues etc.  Just my thoughts.   Best of luck for your project. Is there a reason for a second bedroom? I ask as given your budget and the current increasing costs of materials might put a full extension out of budget. Given that,  I also note that your current combined kitchen lounge area is larger than the bedroom, so it may be more within budget to think about the layout of these 2 rooms. I see that the current bedroom has an attractive outside aspect. If the kitchen is reconfigured you might be able to achieve this from this room with double doors located next to the gate. If it is possible to knock through between kitchen and lounge you could achieve an open plan or almost open plan in this area with the outside aspect. Some food for thought.........
