I'm pretty sure that that only applies if it's next to the Highway. If you come in say 1 metre and put some low hedging in front so that you can see your beautiful railings then the rule changes to requiring permission for over 2 metres. Check out the planning portal. We moved our gates in by around 3 metres to create a small driveway in front of the main drive, for quick parking ( in and out, not stopping for long ) and our gates are higher than 1 metre. Hi Ellie, ok I will edit it more as it should read we want all the shrubs and trees removed which is a tall feat when your not qualified I would guess. Also with the council not available to remove garden waste, we already have a lot piling up with the compost awaiting the date for when we can remove it. Our garden already has fence all the way around, however it needs updating as it has broken it a lot of places.

Thanks all for the advice. That's good to know they are not overpriced etc. We are considering not having double gates now due to the cost - (we only wanted them to put our cmaper through but as we want to sell soon, it seems little point spending the extra money on it!) and going for a fixed fence with larger pedestrian door. Going to see how the price differs there. The gates are set far back on the drive as more privacy gates to the back garden and not actual driveway gates and they are currently 7' high 😁
