Sandstone and Vinegar, Oops!

Hi
I've just had my chimney breast reinstated and had a really nice piece of reclaimed grey sandstone put in. Which was then covered in grime and plaster splatters from doing the surrounds. I have bare brick at the back which was filthy so googled how to clean brick and discovered vinegar was worth a try. However I then also used it on the sandstone and it has now turned green!! I have tried to wash it with a scourer and washing powder and water but it's still green, any ideas??? I'm gutted! Thanks
